Windows 7 WEI reporting SAME ratings with different RAM
I am having the strangest readings from WEI.
Currently I am running Corsair 4 x 1GB PC6400 DDR2 RAM (5-5-5-18). At stock speeds, WEI is reporting a score of 5.5. My roommate also has 4 x 1GB of DDR2 with SAME timings and he is getting a WEI score of 7.1. A HUGE difference. I have tried overclocking my RAM to 4-4-4-12 at 900MHz and 2.1V. WEI STILL reports a 5.5 rating. I have also recently bought 2 x 2GB DDR2 G-Skill RAM with 5-5-5-15 timings. WEI STILL gives a 5.5 rating. I have also tried running 2 x 1GB of my Corsair RAM... HALF of what I usually run. WEI STILL gives a 5.5 rating. Also, I have run the "winsat mem" test in the command console, my speeds hovers around 5863 MB/s... I've seen people with slower timings then what I have mine overclocked at and get faster speeds on the Windows 7 forums. Edit: I just put my RAM back to default timings... I am still getting the same MB/s rate. WHY?! Edit: Roommate just ran "winsat mem" in the command console and got a ~7000 MB/s rating whereas I am getting 5863... he has the SAME RAM just different brand. What the crap is going on? Massively overclocking my RAM doesn't even change the rating slightly. Any help into this would be awesome. Thanks guys. ------------------------------------- CPU - Intel E6600 RAM - 4 x 1GB DDR2 800MHz Corsair XMS2 PSU - 750W Corsair Mobo: EVGA 680i LT GPU: GeForce GTX 260 Last edited by icer22x; 11-07-2009 at 04:50 PM. |

Re: Windows 7 WEI reporting SAME ratings with different RAM
is the ram your lowest score on the WEI?
the score is based on the lowest reading of the different sections, Ex. so if my ram was a 7.9 and my hard drive was old and obsolete with a rating on 3.5 my overall system rating would be 3.5 |

But yes, my RAM is my lowest score, however when I say I am getting a 5.5 rating I am referring to only my RAM score. It just happens to be that my RAM is my lowest score thus it is also my WEI overall score. |

Re: Windows 7 WEI reporting SAME ratings with different RAM
ok. i wouldnt stress over that. WEI does not accuratly rate it, i have read reports of people saying their score went down when they upgraded from vista to 7. it should still perform the same, or with very little difference then your friends RAM

But I guess you're right. It's not really an accurate benchmark. |

Re: Windows 7 WEI reporting SAME ratings with different RAM
get a copy of 3dmark06 and run it on both computers with the same standard resolution and you can compare overall scores.
however my computer scored in the 16,000's on this and others thought it was a rather low score for my hardware, but you can compare those scores if you want. |

Re: Windows 7 WEI reporting SAME ratings with different RAM
WEI is just numbers and don't mean anything. If you PC performs as it should then all is well.
My shop PC had 2X2GB OCZ PC6400 performance RAM. I got a 2x1GB pair of standard Crucial PC5300 in for a customer so I installed them in my shop PC to be certain they were good. My WEI rating for was exactly the same with both RAMS.
