idiot needs help!

I recently got two sticks of DDR ram. They're Hynix, 1gb apiece. PC3200, CL3, 2.5 V. each with the same stats.
I installed it into my motherboard, upgrading from 1 gig, two seperate 520'whatever sticks, each were different.

I have a Asus K8v-x SE motherboard, maximum supported ram being 2 gig. When I installed both sticks, the computer would pass the bios check, detect the full 2 gb of ram, begin to load windows XP, and then a second after choosing the start mode, (safe mode, recovery mode, so on.) it would reboot, and loop. It's stuck in a constant reboot. I installed the ram into another PC to make sure the sticks were good, and they are. The computer can handle one stick put into it, and that's it. I attempted to mix one of my older ones into it, to see if I could get the 1.5 gig to work, and that didn't work either, failing to even to pass the BIOS.
I don't know what other information you techies need out there, let me know and I'll give it to you. But honestly, i'm stumped, I loaded the BIOS defaults, disabling my overclock I had on it, to see if maybe there were memory or *** ever issues, and that didn't make a bit of a difference. Please, help this friggen newb out.

The only thing i can think is voltage settings, but i can't find anything to do with RAM voltage at all... I only found "Pcu" which I'm assuming is the processor voltage. Idk. Any help would be greatly, greatly appreciated.

Re: idiot needs help!

Hi and welcome.

Could you please provide the model number off of the Hynix memory sticks?

I found the QLV for this specific board; it seems to be a little finicky on it's RAM.

Thanks!

Re: idiot needs help!

Well, apparently I lied, I assumed they were identical, because i ordered two of the SAME ones, same price, and such...
BUT. Here's what each one says.
PC3200R-30330 0641
1GB DDR 400MHZ CL3 ECC
HYMD512G726CFP4Q-D43 AB-A

The second...
PC3200R-30330 0532
1GB DDR 400MHZ CL3 ECC
HYMD512G726BF4N-D43 AA-A

Mayun, hopefully ya'll can help. I'm hoping i didn't just throw money down the drain, after trying to update this PC for the last year or so.

Re: idiot needs help!

Hi and thanks..

That's your problem, you are running ECC memory. Your motherboard does not support ECC memory.

I will provide you a link to the QVL for your motherboard shortly!

Thanks!

Re: idiot needs help!

Here is the link to your motherboards QVL. Please note that the site your are going to can be very slow at times. It is an ASUS website.

Thank you very much!

Re: idiot needs help!

ECC? That's strange. any clue as to why one of them works perfectly in it though? And thansk for the list. And yes, I've noticed ASUS website is utterly slow, i've spent the last 30 minutes attempting to download a bios update.

And does this mean there's absolutely no way I could possibly make these two work? I mean, I really don't care what i'd have to do, be it friggen shorting out a piece of the motherboard if I must. This old system is starting to irritate me to no end. In other words, ... to the point I'll even reprogram the thing if someone would tell me how to do it. Lol.

Re: idiot needs help!

No, I have no idea why the ECC works with just one installed. ASUS boards can be finicky, but at the same time I have seen a lot them perform under very strange circumstances also. I'm actually surprised it even made it thru the POST sequence.

Yes, the ASUS site along with the GIGABYTE have been very slow. I have 30MEG Internet connection that is running at about 35MEG (literally, known running at that), so I know it's not my connection. Made me think it was a few times, but it's not.

You are welcome!

Re: idiot needs help!

yeah, i've noticed with the brief experiences that I've had with this motherboard, attempting to upgrade it, and make improve bits and pieces, how it responds to t he most ridicilous things. I guess this means I can jump my over clock back on this redundant thing. Thanks for your help, one more question though. Any idea where I could find ridicously cheap DDR memory that would actually work on this, i paid 15 dollars a stick for the ones I have, and to my knowledge they are very good sticks actually. Though I didn't upgrade my ram size at all, went from two 512 sticks, 400mhz cl3, to the Hynix 1gb...and even with the motherboard apparently not supporting it, I've already noticed a speed increase, and smoother application running with multiple, (9) windows open right now...

But. anyway. Thanks. And any help finding correct memory would be a-game.

Re: idiot needs help!

There are various ones out there that will work. Here is a link to Muskin on Newegg.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...066&Tpk=991451

Here is a link to your motherboard with all available configurations from Muskin:

http://www.mushkin.com/Memory/Config...?systemid=2989

If you go to most sites that sell memory and put in the Muskin model # you can usually find them right away.

Here is a Crucial Memory stick that will work in your system from Newegg.com:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...pk=CT12864Z335

If you want to hit a few of the memory sites and run your board thru their configurator, you may do so. Some of the better memory makers are:

Crucial
http://www.crucial.com/

Corsair
http://www.corsair.com/configurator/default.aspx

OCZ
http://memoryselector.cnetchannel.com/ocztech/

Patriot
http://memoryselector.cnetchannel.com/ocztech/

Muskin
http://www.mushkin.com/Memory/Configurator.aspx

Those should keep you busy!

Thanks!
