1066mhz ddr2 ram don't run stable at 1066mhz
Hi!
In short my problem is that my ram memorys, KHX8500AD2/2G http://www.valueram.com/datasheets/KHX8500AD2_2G.pdf , don't run stable at 1066mhz but only at 800mhz. Here are my specs: Motherboard: M4A78-E CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 3.0ghz @ 3.01 (Don't know why it is 10mhz above). Graphic card: Powercolour 4870 x2. RAM: KHX8500AD2/2G 1066mhz. OS: Windows vista ultimate. So i wanted my ram to function on 1066mhz so i have been reading up and starded to try to fix this. Firstly i checekd the timings and what timings meant and inserted the correct values in bios for my ram, 7-7-7-20 (Note! in bios i can choose between some low number 800 and 1067 not 1066, i just hought i mention it). Then the system ran unstable and crashed in windows quite fast. So i upped the volt to 2.0, this worked better but still crashed. I run at unganged. Then i read up about ganged/unganged and dual or single channel. Discoverd with cpuz that my system was running in single channel mode, fixed that (sett both memory stiks on same colour, bank A1 and B1.). And now the system atleast don't crash in windows anymore while doing nothing. But it still crashes in games and heavy work. I ran memtest on it today and it worked without any problems with 310%coverage when i got home and 0 errors. The problem is when i have multiple memtest running it gives errors, and these are like "d23xxx to d3929xx did not give an accurate writing". This i draw the, unsupport, conclusion that it has something to do with multiple cores tring to use the ram at the same time. And the only option i know that effects this is ganged/unganged and single or dual channel mode. So here i need some help to understand how these things work on the lowest level. Does the cpu get the ram values direct to a core or an LX cache? Or to some cpu chip controll? And how does ganged or unganged affect 4 cores but only 2 ram sticks, since what i know ganged means dedicate one stick per core but i have 4 cores? Does the memory controller somewho portion up the two sticks in to 4 sections for my 4 cores then? Also what does the A mean in my ram model name? KHX8500AD2/2G It don't appear in any other ram model name as far as i can tell. And most importan can i make this work, what is my best bet? And what is better between 64bandwith and 1066mhz or 128bandwith and 800mhz? Please don't be afraid to answer in advanced form, i have used computers my whole life and is currently in the first year of a 5 year computer-science university program so i want to learn about computers :). EDIT: Addes some question and added waht OS i have and some specs, and that i currecntly run at unganged. Last edited by Sirex; 11-03-2009 at 11:33 AM. |
