new stick of 1 G DDR pc2700 kingston ram gone bad
I bought a new 1 gig stick of ram Thursday for my dell dimension 2400 desktop which I installed Friday night into the open remaining memory slot...pc recognized it for a total of 1.5 Gig ram loaded xp pro onto the system and had the dell device drivers installed....All was working fine Saturday morning so left it running all day ...got home Sat. afternoon and the PC was locked up would not respond...Rebooted the PC with power button and it would no longer boot up.
decided to reload xp and I tried several disk all of which were good XP CDs that load at boot up....everyone one of them would have errors installing windows files.... decided to remove the 1 Gig stick of memory and voila all was solved....Windows XP and Windows 7 loaded problem free.... any clues on why the stick of new 1 gig Kingston ram failed so quick.. I have the receipt and plan to take it back to Frys on Tuesday either for a replacement or just a refund... can it be the wimpy Dell oem power supply ?? should I change it out to a more powerful one and retry the ram or just assume the new stick of ram is lost??? any suggestions or ideas appreciated. |

Mixing RAM brands/speeds can also cause issues.
Did you try the Kingston RAM by itself? If the Kingston is actually bad it was probably just a faulty stick. It happens.

Re: new stick of 1 G DDR pc2700 kingston ram gone bad
thanks for the input Tyree yes I tried the 1 gig stick by itself and yes same problems with attempting to load windows....so I isolated the bad actor to the new 1 gig stick of kingston ram I guess it started out good but quickly went south Frys shiould give me a refund I think they have a 14 or 15 day return policy...with receipt...
