Hi guys 'n gals
I came across a cheap set of ram memory (2*1gb) (theese http://www.patriotmemory.org/product...&id=670&type=1 ) I understand, they have a low CAS latency (7-7-7-18) - What does this mean and does it limit their compatability? Patriot's site says, they supports Core2Extreme... But will theese work in an AM3 MB like this http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=fcsXWSxnhzZE9rnR ? If yes, will the lower latency make them perform better in this environment, than ordinary 9-9-9-24? Also, these are 1600MHz - is that better than 1333, and why? Those Latencies are about par for DDR3.
It "should" work with that Mobo but note the (O.C.) listed with 1600. 4 x DIMM, Max. 16 GB, DDR3 1800(O.C.)*/ 1600(O.C.)/1333/1066/800 Personally, I would go with 1333.

Well I plan on putting them in a case with two fans for airflow and a huge heatpipe cpu-cooler (more airflow).
I have no experience with OC whatsoever, so I don't know exactly what influence it will have in this context (I'll make a thread on that in the OC section). Thank you. But I still want to know what difference the CAS latency means, and if I have to use the same kind of ram, the next time I upgrade... |

latency means how fast the ram works at so cl 7 is better than cl 9 or in timmings if it says 5-5-5-15 or 4-4-4-12 the 4-4-4-12 is better because it's faster

to know wether ram is compatible for your board you have to check on your board manufacturers website. Some ram selling companies have a configurator on their sites to get you the right ram.
you can't just put any old ram in a pc.
