Idea Dual Channel Memory

I got 512MB Ram running at single channel.
1.)If I get 1GB RAM, I will able to get dual channel?
Or I should Buy 512MB or 2x1GB Ram kit?

2.)If I get Dual channel memory then What are the Advantages?

3.)512MB+1GB more faster Than 512+512 Dual Channel in real world?

Immediate answer is appreciated.

Re: Dual Channel Memory

Best solution, without knowing any statistics, get a matched pair of 2X1GB.

Re: Dual Channel Memory

For RAM to run Dual Channel they must be the same Make, Size, CAS Latency etc.

Best to just grab a pair of 1GB sticks and run DC.

The 2X512 (if they are a matched pair) running in Dual Channel could possibly be faster.......... especially if the 1GB + 1 512MB RAM isn't exactly the same.......... as HawMan mentioned. Faster RAM will revert to the slower RAM's speed.
You would probably never notice the difference if real time.

Re: Dual Channel Memory

Is dual channel better than single channel operation? Maybe not..It actually depends on your board and cpu. Dual channel, under the right hardware, possibly will give a 25% bump on the bandwith. The question about 1.5 gig single or 1 gig dual..[same speed and clock] you wont see a difference..imho
