Ram Issues

I am using windows vista 32bit with service pack 2, I have 4 gigs of ram installed (Trancend Jetram ddr2 800) in the Bios the full 4 gigs are detected and displayed, but in the OS a mere 2.44 are available under resource monitor, I have tried selecting the memory remap option in the Bios (Asus P5B-VM series) this results in only 2 gigs out of the 4 being utilised in resource monitor. The Bios has been flashed to the latest version also... any suggestions? Many thanks

Re: Ram Issues

Windows Vista service pack 2
Memory 4.00 gigs
Not using onboard video

Gcard -- XFX 8800gt 512mb
Windows 7 detects the same 4.00gigs installed Ram(2.44 usable)
The only thing I can think of is 32bit windows, but then agen atleast over 3 gigs should be utilised in resource monitor, this really has me baffled....
any other thoughts?

Re: Ram Issues

I have one PC (Asus P5B Mobo- OCZ PC6400)) that has 4GB installed but only shows 2GB. I've tried other brands and speeds but it will always show 2GB in Windows XP 32Bit.

Re: Ram Issues

Going to try a 64 bit version of vista and see if that works at all...Ive changed and fiddled with all the settings concerning memory allocation..nothing changes it still only uses 2.44 gigs...and since the motherboard supports up to 8 it must have something to do with the OS...a friend of mines running a Q6600, intel board with 4 gigs of ram, XP Pro 32 bit and it detects and uses 3.25gigs, he has allocated some to his card 9600gt 512mb..

Re: Ram Issues

I checked the Ssus site today and there was a newer Bios version (2104) for the P5B.
I flashed the Bios and now it shows 2.93GB in Windows.
You should consider a better/larger PSU. AOpen are OK lower power PSU's but the 8800GT requires a minimum 400W so you're cutting it pretty close.

Re: Ram Issues

Upgraded the PSU to a 650watt
Had a look on the asus site but was unable to find version 2104, did you use asus update to flash the BIOS or another program?
Still no change on the ram, still shows 2.44.

Re: Ram Issues

The latest verion for your Mobo is
XP/Vista 64 Bit----0901 2007/07/18 Beta V1004 2008/05/20

The P5B-VM Bios was more lacking than the P5B or P5B Deluxe. Perhaps that's why the Bios version are not upgraded?
I ALWAYS use Asus EZFlash. NEVER use Asus update or any other software.
