Hey guys, hopefully you can solve this problem as you did my last one. It's nice to have a site like this where you can just ask questions, But I digress.
I was installing Vista 64 the other day, and It wouldn't let me install it with 4gb. So I installed it with a 2gb sitck of DDR2 1066, and besides from it running slow, I can't go back and install it because my mobo wont post if I have both the sticks in there. So I have been using Vista 64 with 2gb of ram, which is less then desirable. My question is, What do you think is the cause of my motherboard not being able to post with 4gb of ram in it, when it DID post when I had xp32? Thanks in advance, Richard |

Re: I Needz the ram Help?
Are both RAM sticks identical (Brand & Specs)?
What stopped the install with 4GB of RAM? Brand & Model of Mobo-CPU-RAM-Graphics-PSU.

Re: I Needz the ram Help?
Yes both sticks are identical
There 2x2gb OCZ DDR2 (1066) PC2 8500 When I had both of them in, I couldnt install any OS. But when I had One of the sticks in, It would allow me. I have EVGA 780i SLI Mobo The ram I posted above Core2 Duo CPU E8500 @ 3.16GHz XFX GeForce GTS 250 Corsair 650w psu

Re: I Needz the ram Help?
You know what? Your completely right. I just checked my mobo specs and it said my FSB was set at 1066, which I think I confused with my possible ram settings.
But is it possible to change it so that my ram runs at 800mhz?

Re: I Needz the ram Help?
you could attempt to overclock your ram but you would have to increase voltages, the dram setting to 800 and timings. With ram that isn't designed for overclocking it can have really disastorous results.
It's your call, personally I would just buy the new ram.

Re: I Needz the ram Help?
You can try underclocking the RAM to 800Mhz. It may work but it won't do any harm if it doesn't.
I would also suggest you purchase a matching pair of PC6400 to avoid problems.

Re: I Needz the ram Help?
Allright, I guess incompatible ram seems to be the reason of my troubles.
Would this work? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145184

Re: I Needz the ram Help?
Just got some GSKILL DDR2 2x2gb PC6400 Ram and plugged em in, and It didn't work. So, I called EVGA and apparently I have a bad memory controller? I don't really feel like going through the long wait for a new Motherboard, so I think I might just buy a new one while I wait for the two month RMA process....
Any suggestions as to what one I should get?

Re: I Needz the ram Help?
Purchasing a good quality Mobo would be my suggestion. You could ask EVGA for a refund but I doubt that will happen. You can always pawn it of on EBay.

Re: I Needz the ram Help?
Ok so just a quick update on this, everything works now after I got my P5Q mobo. Just wondering if I could use my GSKILL DDR2 2x2gb PC6400 (4-4-4-12) and my OCZ DDR2 2x2gb Ram PC8500 (5-5-5-18) together.

Re: I Needz the ram Help?
you should never do this as it can cause problems, it's always best anyway to use 2 dimm slots instead of all four as using all four can cause voltage issues.

Re: I Needz the ram Help?
you should use the same ram make and speed all the time. Anyway 32bit windows can only see 3.25GB of ram anyway so it would be pointless.
