computer just shut off and won't turn back on

Ive had my newly built system up and running for about a week. All of a sudden while using it, it just turned off and wont go back on. There is a red light on in the front but I get dead silence when I try to turn it on. Could be my power supply went bad already? The case/power supply combo cost $35. I think its a 400 watt supply. I got it from geeks.com.

A power supply that cost $35 by itself should be highly suspect. One that costs $35 WITH a case is guaranteed to be the trashiest trash around.

What are you running?
Motherboard
CPU
RAM
Graphics card

System Specs?
Brand & Moel of Mobo-CPU-RAM-Graphics-PSU.
Totally agree with Phædrus2401 about the PSU. A $35 case/PSU combo has to include a junk PSU.

just because the green light comes on doesn't mean the power supply is ok, it only means that your motherboard is getting power.

Re: computer just shut off and won't turn back on

it could be a combination of things but unlikely start with the power supply,550 is low by todays standards so you may be able to borrow one to test with but it needs to be a quality 80+ with a min 550w

Re: computer just shut off and won't turn back on

update: It was the power supply!!! Now I need to find me a nice quiet one, along with a 120mm quiet fan. IF you guys recommend any that would rule. I'm new on this site so I don't know if I'm posting in the right forum.
