Files corrupting periodically
Hi, my computer files keep getting corrupted randomly. I got this problem ever since I bought my desktop computer but since it mostly affected one of my online games I didn't make a big deal out of it. But now I has been getting worse like some of my programs like matlab and office stop working because some random file gets corrupted and i have to reinstall all them again.
Lets say I install heavy game like world of warcraft from scratch free original discs, randomly the installation will be canceled because some file was corrupted in the process. Same goes with some heavy programs like Matlab. Also periodically, like every 4-5 days, If i run chckdsk i will get a lot of orphan files and corrupted data like this: Checking file system on C: The type of the file system is NTFS. A disk check has been scheduled. Windows will now check the disk. Attribute record of type 0x80 and instance tag 0x3 is cross linked starting at 0x16fed30 for possibly 0x7 clusters. Windows has finished checking your disk. Please wait while your computer restarts. The files that get corrupted are random. This week was one of my games, last week was a file from office excel, and the other time it was a torrent file. So my first thought was HD or ram problem. What I have tried: -Memtest 86+ for 20 hours, no ram errors -My HD is a WD1600JB Western Digital, got the updated diagnostic tool and ran many tests also done many chckdsks and all clear -Clean install of windows, no virus/spywares etc etc. -All bios/devices drivers are updated, all windows updates applied. I have to add too that my PSU is 300 W only not sure if that affects my computer. But thanks in advance if you can shed some light here. Regards. Last edited by Hiroz; 09-27-2009 at 12:38 AM. |

Re: Files corrupting periodically
I dont think its the psu because some computers run with 300w psus and with more devices than my computer has and they dont have memory problems or corrupted files.
But if that is the only think you can suggest then i will give it a shot. |
