Power Supply Problem :(

Hello

Recently I moved into a dorm on a college campus and was disappointed to find that only 2 prong outlets were in my room. I bought a 2 prong to 3 prong adapter so I could run my computer tower in my room.

I plugged the 2 to 3 prong adapter into the wall, plugged a power strip into the adapter, and plugged my monitor and computer tower into the power strip.

I turned my computer on for the first time in my room and everything booted up fine. I installed some software and clicked restart on the computer, it shut down but did not come back on. I hit to the power button on top of the computer and it did not turn back on. I un-plugged and plugged it back it and it still did not turn back out. I checked the outlet and they worked fine when used to power my 3 prong monitor through the 3 to 2 prong adapter, but did not turn on my computer. I also plugged the computer into a normally 3 prong outlet in the same dorm but a different room with no response.

I assume this is a power supply problem simply because the computer wont turn on but i may be wrong.

My power supply is a Rosewill 700w.

Several things happen when i attempt to turn the computer on. When I turn the switch on the powersupply while its plugged in, the lights on my keyboard very briefly flash on, but immediately turn off.

Also, i opened up the case and found that while the switch on the supply is on while plugged in, a tiny light on my motherboard turns green and remains green until i turn off the switch in the back of the computer.

My Apologies for the long post but i figured a detailed explanation was required to properly diagnose the problem. My knowledge of computers is very limited, but any assistance any one can give me to solving this problem is appreciated. For the 3 months Prior to this incident, this homemade computer had been working fine.

thanks for help

Re: Power Supply Problem :(

Unfortunately Rosewills are almost the worst of the worst when it comes to power supplies, Its a toss up between them and winpower pros imo.

I'll bet you that its been damaged when you plugged it in and screwed your ram and mobo as tends to be the case with these low end PSUs.

Re: Power Supply Problem :(

Rosewill PSU's are just about the bottom of the reliability chain.
Post your PC specs (Mobo-CPU-RAM-Graphics) and someone can help you to select a quality PSU that will be sufficient for your needs.
