Not all RAM detecting!?!

Hello, new here...

I am running Win XP Home Edition SP2

My video card is 7950 Nvidia XFX or something

I recently bought 2x2 GB ram sticks.

I previously had 2x1 GB sticks

It used to report in system that I had 2 GB of ram.

So I put in the new sticks, and now system says i only have 2.43 GB of ram

However CPUID CPU-Z reports that i have 4 GB of ram???

I know this version of windows wont use all 4GB, the computer guy said 3.5

Anyway, whats going on??

I read some stuff about PAE

Right under in system where it reports i have 2.43 it says Physical Address Extension?

???

What should my virtual memory be set as?

Thanks for any help

After installing new hardware, you should always reset the CMOS, do that and see what the result is.

Re: Not all RAM detecting!?!

32 Bit XP will "see" up to 3.25 GB.
Rule of thumb for Virtual Memory is 1.5 X the amount of RAM you have installed.
With 4GB of RAM I wouldn't be concernec about it.

Microsoft deliberately limited the PAE kernel to only allow 4GB. So it wont help you with this problem.

Re: Not all RAM detecting!?!

Resetting the BIOS will not help with this problem . . all 32 bit operating systems ( including linux) are limited to 3.25 of memory. subtract 512 MB or so for the video card and you have the 2.45 GB

But to reset the BIOS, unplug from power and open the case . . take out the quarter sixed battery on the mother board and press the power button . . replace the battery and you are good to go. Any time I do that, I replace the battery with a new one

That they are not. The only reason that the PAE kernel in xp/vista/win7 won't address more than 4GB is because Microsoft has some concerns. Linux does it with a happy face.

Re: Not all RAM detecting!?!

As Team Mate simpswr has said, the CMOS/Bios is not the problem.
The limitation is the Vista 32Bit OS.

Re: Not all RAM detecting!?!

it sounds like you have an integrated video card i don't know much about video cards. oops no its not integrated but the video card is using part of your RAM is what is sounds like some systems you can change the amount of video card memory someway but i dont know how to stop that cause. my video card is integrated and i have 2gb of RAM installed but my PC only reads 1.75gb of ram because of my video card
