Problem with my psu, or ram, or ..?
Ok, here is the deal... i have an old pc, used to have 512 of ram, and i found 2x512 extra ram dimms, so i tried to put them on my pc. (all 3 rams are of the same company, jetram). I first tried to place just 1 additional dimm, it worked fine.. when i tried to put another one, catastrophe happened..
I've tried everything, and my pc wont even start! I placed again just that one ram i had in the first place, still nothing. i cleared my cmos, still nothing. I noticed one thing though.. my psu's fan is not working either. so i tried to short-circuit the Power_On cable on the 20pin power supply cable, and the fan worked! Any idea of what could have happened? Thanx in advance

Re: Problem with my psu, or ram, or ..?
With used computers the slots should be cleaned prior to adding ram to remove dust and oily films--a potential short circuit.
Use an Electronics Contact Cleaner spray or alternatively a swab stick dampened with 90% Isopropyl alcohol, (never less than 90%) and then blow dry using canned air. can substitute a folded coffee filter (unused) for swabbing. ram modules should be cleaned as well. (Wiping the module connectors with a pencil/pen eraser works too.) Since the case is already open it's a good time to do a general cleaning of all I/O cards and slots and fans--ram and video cards last longer and work better when kept clean.
