Power to Desktop

I have been having problems with my PC in 2 areas, (1) video card overheating & (2) powering up & down, which I suspected was to do with (1). Sometimes I would press the power button on the top & nothing would happen, I had to physically remove the power lead & plug it back on and then, usually, it would start.

I've just changed the video card, reset it all up, pressed the button & nothing, not a sausage ... I tried the power lead trick & nothing has happened, it just won't power up or show any indication that it is going to ... it does do the little click when I plug in the lead so I think power is OK.

Could this be a problem with the Power Button itself (which is on the top of the case & cannot find a way to get at it !) or could there be some kind of trip switch inside the PC, either as part of the case or on the M/B (ASUS A8V Deluxe) ?!?

Re: Power to Desktop

I've eventually managed to find out how to get at the power switch and I can't see a problem there ... anybody got any other ideas ?

My System

Re: Power to Desktop

Please post the specs of the system.

Check all connections to the MB.

Do you have another PSU to try on the system.

If not then test the PSU

Test your power supply with a multi meter

I unplugged and replugged the 2 (as far as I know) power connectors to the MB, I changed the little battery, no difference

I do have other PSUs to try, yes, but I really was hoping not to go down that road, what a pain in the **** that will be !!! It has been working on and off, not always starting first time, but once it started, it stayed on ... the only time it is EVER a problem is when booting cold

As I understand electricity, it is On or Off ... so I don't think it's the PSU but I suppose I have to try it ...

Re: Power to Desktop

The cold boot no start where you have to unplug or turn off the PSU 2 or more times to get it to boot is usually a PSU issue.
