thanks thats a great site, but i should of mentioned i already own the laptop and that ram was given to me by someone to i wanted to see if i could use it or not

Here are the Kingston recommended modules for the Dell Inspiron 6000> http://www.ec.kingston.com/ecom/conf...submit1=Search

KVR is Kingston Value Ram it may or may not work in a Dell they can be picky, I usually only use Crucial in them.

if i try putting it in, can i do any damage to the laptop by putting in a ram stick that doens't work with it?

It's the right size and speed it won't damage anything, if it BOSD's after installation just take it back out.

i put it in along with a different 512 stick, and everything seems to be running fine, thanks for your help guys :)
