Yet Another New-PSU Thread

Well hi, i'm new. First, i need to tell you that English is not my native language so, sorry if there are words in the worng place or things like that.

Well, i'm going to upgrade my computer, using my actual HDD, DVD Drive, Floppy (not needed but i have it so...) and case.

I'm gonna buy a Asus M4A78-EM or a M4A78-E (don't know yet) here in my country (Argentina), 2GB DDR2 here too, a Phenom II X3 720 in Compusa, and a Power Supply in the same place. I'm buying there because the person who it's getting me this hard can go to the store with no problem. And if something fails, sending it to newegg would be a pain in the butt.
I want to buy something like a 4850 in the future, but now i have not enought money.

I have everything selected but the PSU. I need help with that.

The money i have to that part is 50-60 dls. (I know that you're gonna say that it's an important part, and that i have to put money on it, but in the real life, and in this country with high hardware prices, i can't spend more money)

Well, i was looking this PSUs:

http://www.compusa.com/applications/...55393&csid=_21

http://www.compusa.com/applications/...IN#detailspecs

The first one got me with its 600W and the 3 year warranty (which is important to me because it's a really big deal to get the PSU to the RMA being at thousands of miles from there) and all the protections that compusa says it has.

And the second one i don't remember why but it seemed to me like a good one, it has a good variety of connectors, and the reviews i have read said that it was working just fine.

Well, if you think that this are a VERY VERY BAD choices(or just bad), you can tell me which one i could buy in the same range of price (50-60) and the same range of wattage. And in compusa please.

I'm also gonna buy a psu tester so this person could connect it and test it before it gets here. If you know some place in miami where they test the parts or something like that it would be helpful. Or some place that sells hardware and test it before they give it to you.

Thank you very very much :)

Re: Yet Another New-PSU Thread

I don't think you want either of the supplies you have listed, they are just not a great quality supply and you will most likely end up with issues you don't want to deal with. This is the supply you need in there:

Its great that compusa has an outlet down there, and the supply is tops with the rebate.

Re: Yet Another New-PSU Thread

It's just impossible that i could get that. I know what you whink, but i still need one of 50-60dls. The people over here uses chinese parts that cost 100usd, and computers works. The "Good" PSUs that in USA cost 40dls, here costs 120dls... so the chinese are the cheap ones. The Corsairs and their colleagues cost over 200 =/.

The rebate thing is like a trick, because you get the rebate after a lot of time IF YOU GET IT. So i would still have to pay $100+.

I must have missed something here, what country are you in?

Edit, I just found that you are in Argentina....sorry, missed that one a couple of times, so no need to answer.

Re: Yet Another New-PSU Thread

CompUSA has a 700 watt OCZ that is refurbished which is cheaper and might do the job for you. I will however keep looking for others.

I just saw that the OCZ has 4 12v rails, i think that only one rail i'ts better for me because i won't be using all the rails at the same time.

Anyway, there is NO WAY that i could get one of the cheap ones? (At least for running without dedicated video card).

PD: Sorry for the multi-post.

Re: Yet Another New-PSU Thread

I've never heard of that brand but it does have some good reviews around the net.
Personally, I would find a known quality brand.

Re: Yet Another New-PSU Thread

A power supply make everything work in your computer it converts AC (from your wall socket) to low end DC that is used to run all the components in a PC.

If you buy a cheap version then they can fail to do this conversion properly and in turn can damage the components in your computer. They can can spike the computer with too much power and in turn this over volts components and they can also just give up.

You should never skimp on the price of a power supply and should always go for a quality brand even if all you do is browse the internet or type up word documents. In my opinion the power supply is the most important part of a computer because a good known brand is less like to blow up than some cheap not well known brand.

Think of it this way:- you have just bought a Ferrari and know that it runs best on 98 Octane fuel would you dare put 95 octane fuel in it? I wouldn't.
