Restarting Issue

Heya all,
I’ve got a problem with my PC, in fact it restarts randomly.
Yesterday for the first time it restarted when under effort but used to restart only while surfing or when low effort was required.
For that reason it shouldnt be either power supply or overheating problem.(Graphic card demands 630W and my power supply has 650W)
I'm saying randomly because it maybe doesnt restart in 5+ hours and the day after it happens twince in 5 mins.
Things I've tried til now are swapping RAMs (2x2GB) and format HD. I'm on XP Home.
Anyone can help me ?
Thank you in advance.

Re: Restarting Issue

start > run > type in "sysdm.cpl" without quotes.

go to Advanced tab and click on settings under Startup and Recovery.

uncheck Automatically Restart.

next time it reboots, find out what the blue screen says and post it here.

thanks.

Re: Restarting Issue

if it's restarting without a blue screen it is hardware.

check your temps and voltages in BIOS if you can.

test your RAM.

test your hard drive.

Re: Restarting Issue

if the video card requires 630w
then the min psu to run the system is going to be a min of 850w or better and it needs to be,a quality unit with a 80% efficiency rating

what are you running
video card
cpu
m/board
ram
power supply
brand
wattage

check the listings in the bios for voltages and temperatures and post them

Re: Restarting Issue

You can check your temps. in bios to see if it is an overheating issue, however, I agree with dai. Your system is likely underpowered. A 20W comfort zone is not a comfort zone at all. Especially without a quality psu.

You might also verify your ram specs. and be sure you are running at correct voltage. Most PC6400 requires 1.9 to 2.1 volts. Check Patriot site for your model voltage requirements.

Re: Restarting Issue

Ok it's not the power supply. Changed to a Corsair 850 W and still have the same problem.
At this point I think I've got a problem with RAMs
Those are mine :
http://www.patriotmemory.com/product...&id=658&type=1
I see voltage settings 2.2V which doesnt match with BIOS right ? (DDR18V : 1.904V)

Re: Restarting Issue

I solved the problem, updating the BIOS, that was it.
Wanted to share the cause since it could be useful for other people having the same issue.
