Ram help!!!!
Hi,
Ive got 64Bit Vista installed and im trying to upgrade my RAM to 4GB, i did a search on crucial uk, and bought 2x4GB PC2 6400 RAM that said was compatible. However when i come to install them my computer no longer recognises my graphics card, Error - System could not allocate enough resources to my PCI Express Root Port(Code 12). If i go below 4GB everything works fine my GPU etc. Why is this happening and how do i fix it. Ive already updated my BIOS, my nvidia GPU has the latest drivers. I did a PSU calculator and it suggested i only needed 350Watt PSU. My Computer... http://support.packardbell.com/uk/it...&pn=pb80128501 Quad 2 Core Q6660 2.4GHz Denver 10 Mobo Nvidia 8600GT 512 425Watt PSU 3GB RAM Thanks for your help. |

Re: Ram help!!!!
OK, are you certain that Mobo will accept DDR2800 (PC6400) RAM?
I've looked around and I can't find any specs for that Mobo but i have found a lot of problems similar to (adding RAM causes graphics problems) yours.

Re: Ram help!!!!
OK, I "finally" located some specs for that Mobo. It's made by ECS (not good) it uses Nvidia chipsets (not good with an Intel CPU).
It does say it supports DDR2800RAM. Do you have the latest Nvidia drivers installed for the 8600GT. Try running one stick of RAM at a time.

Re: Ram help!!!!
PLEASE refrain from posting about the same problem in more than one thread/post. It causes confusion and makes the task of giving you reliable help that much more difficult.
At this point, my best guess, ECS Mobo + Nvidia chipsets + HyperX RAM=problems. Add the Hiper PSU for future problems. My best advice, at this point, would be to reread the last two posts (#6 & 7) in the other thread. RAM Problems HELP!!

Re: Ram help!!!!
I already have done what they suggested in previous posts. This post says ive bought RAM from CRUCIAL and it still doesnt work.
The only advice you have given is that my whole system quite simply SHOULD'NT be working anyway. |

Re: Ram help!!!!
hello mart. suggest you mark other thread solved (you did buy the crucial).
generally, the operating system installs itself at top of ram (in the penthouse), the legacy hardware and all software live at the bottom (ground floor) and pci/pcie/video graphics will occupy the middle section. bios and windows os then store the information about these locations, irq, etcetera, resources into nvram (also known as cmos escd) and a battery backup is used to retain this information on shutdowns. so, when the pc boots this data is used by bios and then the os to quickly allocate these resources again. now when you add ram that changes the locations (ie: the penthouse was on 20th floor has now moved up to the 40th floor, pci/video moves from 10 to 20th floor). also, because more ram is available pci might grab a bigger chunk of it. a good bios will detect that the ram amount has changed and update the nvram, thus forcing a rebuild of the data table. unfortunately, some bios don't do this automatically--hence the nvram data table is incorrect (corrupt) when read by bios and the os which results in errors, freezes, etc... it's often necessary to force the nvram to be rebuilt. a simple way is to reset cmos, (or remove battery etc..). another is to go into bios setup and load defaults-n-save/exit. some bios include a 'reset escd' or similar setting which is the best method. so i suggest you try 'load defaults-n-save/exit' and then power off immediately. then install the new ram. also, temporarily disconnect all usb devices (except kybrd and mouse).
