Re: Bestec power supply

The hard rives don't use much power its the graphics card, CPU and motherboard that you should be most worried about in that order.

Bestec's are bad PSU's.

What are your system specs

RAM
CPU
motherboard
graphics Card
(already know the PSU)

Actually,i should explain further. This computer fried on me.I am 65 yrs.old and am not that computer savy. But,i've always wanted to try to build my own. So,i started by buying a asus P5rc-Le motherboard [already had the Bestec],then i bought the Samsung hard drive, and finally,so far,i bought an Intel pentium d 965 extreme 3.75ghz cpu.I am really open to suggestions on the graphis card.Don't laugh,i'm doing the best i can with what little brainsand money i have.Thanks,Tony.

Re: Bestec power supply

Amazingly enough, that Bestec does have a couple of sata power connectors. Look for a connector from the psu that's "L" shaped. Old HP oem psu. As is the motherboard.

The Pentium D 965 may not work in the board, unless they added cpu support and didn't update the webpage, it only supports up to the 950. Never know till you try, keep your fingers crossed.

Oh yah, the psu has 19amps on the +12, however it is pci-e, any graphics aside from the integrated would need better quality and output. And I would change the Bestec anyway, they aren't known for anything but misery.

Re: Bestec power supply

My very first task would be to get a quality PSU. Bestec PSU's are infamous for taking other hardware with them when they fail.

Re: Bestec power supply

Well,i've ordered an Ultra LSP750 power supply. It is highly rated and has great reviews, from what i've read.I do not do gaming.Mostly surf the web.I do,however, print a lot of kids and grandkids pictures.I use a Canon Pixma Mp970 printer for the most part. So,would you please keep that in mind when recommending network cards.Thanks,Tony.

Re: Bestec power supply

Return it and get a Corsair 750w

I never had any use of network cards. Maybe 7+ years ago they were needed or for diual up modems but otherwise its a waste of money.

Re: Bestec power supply

First pick a video card then a correct sized PSU, What is your intended use for the PC?
Somehow I don't think high end gaming is going to come into play here?
