Corsair PC3200 voltage
Does anyone know what it should be?
I see it is set at 2.7 in my Abit IS7 I think that is overclocked but i can't seem to find anywhere that lays it out for us. |

Re: Corsair PC3200 voltage
According to OCZ these two 512MB PC3200 DIMM's are rated to run at 200 MHz FSB with timings of 2-2-2-7, with a voltage of 2.7V. That is 0.1V higher voltage than other PC3200 DIMM's run at but acceptable(JEDEC list 2.6V as the nominal voltage for PC3200 DDR). The nickel plated copper heatspreaders do nothing for performance, but they do help shield the DIMM's from physical damage during handling. The individual DIMM's are double sided and sport 16 256MB DRAM each DIMM.

Re: Corsair PC3200 voltage
These are 256MB's but I assume they're about the same.
I just wondered, I'm about to either scrap this machine: Abit IS7 with/ pentium 4 - 2.8GHZ Northwood with 512MB RAM 40GB HD and a Rage Fury Pro 4x AGP video card. Or I could add a 250GB SATA 150, a 3.2Ghz Pentium 4 Prescott, and matched Corsair 2x1GB pc3200 and overclock it and get a few more years out of it. The motherboard is about 6 years old but hasn't been run much at all. So it really has about maybe 2.5 years of actual use. I'm just thinking about getting back into gaming in my spare time and I haven't had to think about hardware for years. i was one of the first people I knew that got into using computers to record music. I spent a chunk of change building a machine for that. it could run games (at the time) like a raped aped too. I expect I'll do the upgrades and then let it go for a few hundred bucks when I have the rest of the money to really upgrade. |

Re: Corsair PC3200 voltage
hmmmmmmmmmm I can remember my P4 3,0ghz machine selling days very well........I sold alot of them!
I also remembered the customers who "upgraded" from a 2.8 to a 3.2ghz cpu they often times werent too happy with the very modest improvements in speed they got! however 3.2ghz and higher cpu's can be found on ebay rather affordable ........not like the $200.00 and more price tags of the day as for overclocking ..........forget that with a prescott cpu ....they run too hot and you wont see squat for improvement when you do overclock it anyway ! but as for just plain runnign and being depednable ........hell yes....... it will run for another 2-3 years no sweat as for gaming though .......its days are gone; the single core 3.0ghz cpu really struggles to play games like Call of Duty 4 or 5 and even World of Warcraft aint easy on the 3.0 single core; but for common computing stuff it can hack it! if you get lucky you might find one of those P4 socket 478 extreme procesors that were 3.4 ghz on ebay good luck hunting joe

Re: Corsair PC3200 voltage
thanks for replying Joe
All good things to know, I've got a friend that I'm meeting with tomorrow who has the following for me: Pentium 4 - Socket 478 - 3.2 GHz “Prescott” w/HT Corsair Dual-Channel XMS Platinum Series DDR400 (PC-3200) Ram - 2 GB (2x1GB matched pair) Maxtor Diamond Max 10 (6L250SO) Hard Drive - 250 GB - Sata 150 We haven't talked price yet but he usually gives me a deal I can't refuse. This stuff is just sitting on his shelf waiting for me. It's really silly to spend very much on this though. I just know that in short order I'm going to have the money to buy the latest greatest game machine. Probably going to get back into using my computer for audio processing then. |
