Is my PSU faulty?
Hey guys. This morning i recieved my 500w Stealth stream power supply by OCZ. Being 13 its nice to have new stuff, especially when you pay for it yourself.
So, I plugged everything in and nothing. The power supply had some kind of power going to it, but i'm led to believe it may be faulty. It makes a kind of plasticy smell with absolutely no power to the pc. Only a little green light on the mobo lights up. I know my pc isn't faulty as i'm back to using a 300w psu i had previously, so, could the OCZ psu be faulty? It was packaged in brown paper and sent as standard delivery.. Could this be the reason? I have been in close contact with the ebay seller which i bought it from and have given him good feedback, purely because I feel OCZ made the faulty psu, but i'm slowly changing my theory. The seller says that he turned the psu on for 10 minutes before he sold it, saying it worked fine. The package just looked like it would if you were sending some chocolates of whatever, the postman would have had no clue what was in the parcel. I have emailed OCZ customer support also, expressing that it don't work etc. I've already tried insert + power button, unplugging the psu, switching on and off. reconnecting everything, the things you'll find if your googling all afternoon.. If anyone knows anything then please let me know. Thanks guys

Re: Is my PSU faulty?
If it has the 115v/230v switch on the back is it set to the correct voltage for your country?
Was the supply in a ocz box wrapped in brown paper or the supply it self was wrapped in paper Interesting statement from the seller he would have had to hooked it to a PC or at least to a fan and jumped the pins for it have turned on. FYI for future refference, When you use paypal on eBay the money is held for 20 or 30 days or until the buyer leaves positive feed back so it may have been a good idea to hold off on the feedback. Is the seller willing to exchange it? |

Re: Is my PSU faulty?
Some models have the 115v/230v switch others do not on the back near where the power cord plugs in, If the system works with your old PSU and not the new I can assume you have the wires hooked up correctly I would say the supply is bad see if the seller will take it back.

Re: Is my PSU faulty?
He said he'd packed the warrenty slip in but he didn't.. He seems legit and wrote a big email to me.. I'll ask him to check for the slip but if he cant offer me the warrenty i'll have to get my money back..
Bit annoying really, I only opted for ebay when i didn't have the funds in the bank to buy the psu from a retailer. Taz |

Re: Is my PSU faulty?
never leave feedback until you are satisfied the item works ..........life is full of "lessons" and you are just beginning !
keep your chin up; if the ebay seller doesnt come thru then most likley OCZ will; their customer support is top shelf !

Re: Is my PSU faulty?
That would be a wise move, but don't delay, talk to them immediately. The longer of time span that passes, the less likely you will get the Ebay seller to do anything.

you dont need warranty card ..........fill out OCZ RMA form they will want serial number and such and that will determine warranty status

Re: Is my PSU faulty?
you need to submit the units serial number; I dont know if the PN ##### and the serial number are the same; they usually also want the data of manufacture
is this where you got the online RMA form ? http://www.ocztechnology.com/support/customer-faqs/

Re: Is my PSU faulty?
http://www.ocztechnology.com/NewTicket.html
simply fill out these questions / click "powersupply" from the drop down menu and where it asks "what is the problem" simply fill in "dead power supply" dont forget your email address to them; the next step they will send you all the info you need to get the unit replaced

Re: Is my PSU faulty?
well then; contact the ebay seller and tell him you want a refund, if that hits a brick wall
then "insist" OCZ make good on its warranty period .............explain to OCZ that you bought the unit on "the ocz reputation" otherwise you would have been hunting for a Rosewill or Apevia powersupply!

Re: Is my PSU faulty?
Well i've asked for a refund now. I now believe the PSU was not working for him so he tried to sell it. I don't see how its my priority to get it sent out for a refund. The seller should take it back and I get the money back, he knows it was broken. I've sent him 3 emails now but he hasnt replied. My big brother (35) says we should tell the police about this. Fraudulent activity. I can not really be bothered with sending back to OCZ as this is not my problem, right?
I need advise on what to do if he doesn't offer a refund. Thanks, Taz Last edited by Tazadoobii; 07-20-2009 at 12:22 PM. |

Re: Is my PSU faulty?
Yes I submitted one yesterday, but thanks.
Here's his response to me saying I want a refund. Sorry I've been out and haven't had a chance to reply. The product was working fully when I sent it to you and if you just bear with me you'll have it replaced in time. OCZ have not replied yet though, since earlier today. It clearly stated in my ebay that refunds were not available and you have givven me good feedback. I'm not going to refund you You'll only have to wait a week or so untill you can send it off to OCZ and they'll refund you. If OCZ do not agree to replace the PSU then I'll replace it for you so long as you send me the PSU back. Yeah.. So I'm not going to refund you unless OCZ turn the replacement down. I really DON'T have the time for this. Can a PSU really break in the post? My big brother (35) reckons i've been scammed, but I can't really do anything as he refuses to refund me? I feel its not my priority to send it away to OCZ when he was the one who should have done that.. Maybe he is legit.. But he hasn't given me evidence to proof my brother wrong. All his emails have been directed at me, using "mate" quite often, when I only met him a few days ago. He could just be a friendly chap.. I'm really stuck here and I hate it.. |
