[SOLVED] CM real power 460 or Corsair VX450 ??
I am confused between these two PSUs
CM has 80+ bronze rating.But, it has two 12V rails of 18A each.I feel one 12V rail will be better for me as I might get a radeon 4770(possibility). whereas,corsair is much costlier and has less efficiency rating.But, it has a single 12V rail of 33A. Which is the better of the two?? http://www.coolermaster.com/products...detail&id=5483 http://www.corsair.com/products/vx/default.aspx My specs- Intel C2Q q8200@2.33 Ghz no overclocking Intel DG41TY mobo 2 Gb ram kingston 320 Gb hard drive DVD writer |

Re: CM real power 460 or Corsair VX450 ??
First of all, let me say to you from your comment contained in the thread about getting a 4770 video card. You need a bare minimum of a 600 watt power supply and a 650 would be even better, because a 450 will not do the job with that video card.
Both power supplies are simply excellent, so with either of these models, you just can't go wrong. If this were my choice, I would choose the single rail supply because you are not splitting power needs between two rails. A read of this from PC Power & Cooling might help you to understand the difference: Quote:

Re: CM real power 460 or Corsair VX450 ??
OK
but can't I overdraw power from the PSU like the CM460 says that it has a max of 550W output. I think the max my PC under full load can go is 500 W. so, CM460 will be a good choice. Im not going to do any overclocking no future crossfire plans.NOTHING. For same price I can get CM extreme power 600W,but it's not reliable and has just 2 years warranty. wouldn't it be wise for me to get 460W ? |

Re: CM real power 460 or Corsair VX450 ??
Absolutely not, don't buy an underpowered power supply. That would be a major mistake on your part with a nice rig.
If the supply you are looking at might even run it, you stand a very good chance of having "tearing, lines across the screen, shadowing, slower performance, etc." and all those normal symptoms of an underpowered video card. Then, you have to redo the power supply again to get it to perform the way it is supposed to. The cost difference between what you are looking at and a higher powered supply is minimal when you eliminate those headaches we are discussing with poor performance. Major video card manufacturers are know (well documented in the PC reviews) to understate their power needs to sell more video cards. Don't fall in to that trap and buy something that is not adequate. Here is what you need: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139005 BTW, that coolermaster 600 you mentioned is NOT a good power supply, even if the same price as the one you listed. Where are you from if not in the US, maybe we can help you locate a good price on a decent sized supply?

@Tumbleweed36
none of the online powersupply calculators I ran showed my system wattage to be more that 350W. I think even if we don't believe in them and add up a 100 Watts more,that would make it 450W,that's still in our range. |

I don't know of one tech, mentor, moderator, or manager on here who would suggest you run it with that small of a power supply. However, that has to be your choice and I can almost guarantee you will be back soon with problems related to low power.

Re: CM real power 460 or Corsair VX450 ??
That is a strong PSU, so should work for you if you don't get too many add-on things or you don't overclock. Let us know when you get the video card if everything is O.K.
