Bad RAM?

Hey there,
I recently bought a new 2GB 800mhz ddr2 memory module for my tower,
its to replace the old 3 x 1GB 533mhz ddr2 modules since i game alot.

the new RAM works fine but after a few hours i just get a BSOD error and it restarts my tower. then if i leave it a day the memory will work again for a while and then do the same.

i've tried updating my firmware on my board everything, my board supports the module, so any ideas?

i'm completely baffled on the subject, ive tried allsorts.

Thanks,
Liamalxd.

Re: Bad RAM?

if you're getting the dreaded blue screen with a memory dump then yeah there might be something wrong with the RAM, so i'd suggest downloaded a bootable CD of tools such as the ultimate boot CD or hirens 7.1 (someone told me they may be up to #9) these bootable disks are great and are full of random tools to help you diagnose problems.

run one of the memory tests on there and they'll tell you if anything is wrong with the RAM

Re: Bad RAM?

well if you still have the packeging or the ram still has a sticker with its serial number s/n on it you can check the manufacturers website, they all have a number checker to make sure its still under warranty.

most manufacturers give out lifetime warranties with decent ram, (not really LIFETIME but product lifetime, if they stop selling the product then they stop the support) either way a stick of DDR2 800mhz is like what, £45, $50 bucks

next time go for a decent named brand if you didnt this time, OCz i find are fantastic though some people disagree, i usually stay away from kingston as theyve burned me 3 times in the past, in a row with their RAM. and i have mixed feelings about corsair

edit - if the ram is faulty then its faulty, switch back to the old stuff for now if you still have it.

Re: Bad RAM?

it doesnt need to be expensive, nothing does really, except maybe you know a quality processor anyway i get what you mean though it does suck, like i said kingston sent me 3 bad modules in a row, and everytime i had to send them back in better packaging than what they sent to me lol to prove they didnt break in transit.

PNY are 'ok' bit like corsair, i never feel strongly either way
