serious problem. getting blue screens now system wont boot
Ok Ive been working on this computer. It was having random restart issues. I believe the registry was corrupt. SO fine I cna restore it, heres where it starts to get interesting. When I would run the windows repair off of the XP disc, the system would blue screen when trying to get into the repair section. So I was going to repair XP, but when I go to install the repair, I hit enter and the system blue screens. So I shut it off and now I hit the power button and it does nothing. I figured it was the button so I plugged the reset button into the power button spot on the mobo and still wont come. What do you think? power supply?
this one has me at a loss.

Re: serious problem. getting blue screens now system wont boot
Hello ,
Yes this is a very good possiblity but lets do this Now open your case Plug your cord into the power supply and look at the motherboard / do you see a green light on the motherboard ? might be red or amber If you do then you may just need to do a hard reset of the bios Make sure you are touching the metal case befor touching the motherboard To do this Unplug every thing from your computer / power cords / monitor / usb devices Then remove the battery from the mother board Then push your power button and hold it for a count of 10 Then release it for a count of 5 / then push it againg for a count of 5 Then hook every thing back up Now here is a good read for you Follow link http://www.informationweek.com/news/...leID=189400897 Read all / their is 5 pages

I had forgotten to say, yes the mobo power light is on. I did pull the cmos battery and it didnt help. I tried your method and that did nothing also.

Hummm,
This isnt sounding to good Now you are looking at a motherboard that could of died on you or that maybe , hopefully that your power switch could of taken a digger on you and could of quit working so be for we get to far with the thinking bad things unplug every thing from the motherboard that you dont need for a test run have only the hard drive / cpu fan & power supply connected to the motherboard and try powering it up / check all your data cables / make sure the ram is seated firmly try another power supply unit if these dont work then its either the motherboard or the processor

Re: serious problem. getting blue screens now system wont boot
Well I dont think it the switches, because I swapped the plug for the reset to the power and I still get nothing, I suppose the whole panel could have wet bad, but thats not very likely. Plus all these thing were working fine just before I took it down to move it.
Those other things you listed are my next steps though. Ill let you know. But no I dont think its good either. |

Re: serious problem. getting blue screens now system wont boot
well I put a PS in I had laying around and it fired up. So Im going to put a new PS in it ans see if that fixes the problems it had before the PS went. If it was going it would explain everything.
