RAM in last slot keeps failing
Hey everyone, hope you guys can help. Here's whats going on..
I have a Foxconn ad7a-s mobo that supports up to 8gb on ddr2 1066 ram, originally when I built the computer everything worked fine until a month or two later when I went to turn on my computer and the computer would run but I wouldn't get any display on my monitors. So after messing around trying to see what the problem was I took out each stick of RAM and it was the RAM in the last slot that apparently was causing the problem. Ok..so whatever, I just thought bad RAM, no biggie, I got another stick of the same exact RAM Kingston HyperX 2gb ddr2 1066, everything has been fine for quite a while. Now last night I went to restart my computer and when I restarted I got no display so the first thing I checked was to RAM in the last slot and sure enough that's what it was. Any idea to why this is happening? I am running Vista Ultimate 64-bit, I also read somewhere that it may be your power supply? I have a pretty good 650w brand new PSU. Any help is greatly appreciated! |

video card cpu m/board ram power supply brand wattage check the listings in the bios for voltages and temperatures and post them check the voltage range for your ram and see if you have scope to lift it

Re: RAM in last slot keeps failing
do you have fox one installed? if so check that voltage is 2.2V
check the frequency too it may be less than 1066. note: KHX8500D2 SPD is programmed to JEDEC standard latency 800Mhz timing of 5-5-5-15 at 1.8V

Thanks man, I have Fox One installed. DRAM says 1.74 And DRAM Freq. is 800 lol as you said. I'm not to sure what to do about the SPD in terms of "Auto" "Limit" or "Manuel". The manuel says that 1066mhz will only appear in AM2+ CPU's. I have a Phenom 9850 Black Edition. Is this AM2+ or AM2?

Re: RAM in last slot keeps failing
Kingston HyperX is known to have problems. Are you filling all of the RAM slots on the Mobo? That can also cause Voltage issues.

And yes I am filling all the slots on the mobo, it's max ram capacity for 64-bit is 8gb, so I have 4 sticks of 2gb HyperX. Another really weird thing is when I go into the BIOS and try to manually set the freq. of the RAM when I set it to 533 and then try to boot my computer it says "Boot Image is Corrupt" *** is that all about. But check this out, when I changed the multiplier for the cpu to anything above 12.5 I get in the 1000s for the freq. for the RAM. I don't even know why that is happening. |
