4 gb ram not detecting in xp 64 bit

i have windows xp 64 bit..recently i have installed 4 gb (2 gb ddr2 x 2) of ram to my pc but my pc is just showing 3 gb...previously i had xp 32 bit and that also used to detect 3 gb only...nd then i heard that 32 bit detects 3 gb maximum ram but 64 bit can detects more then 4 gb .. so to make full use of my ram i installed xp 64 bit but problem is still the same.it is still detecting 3 gb..kindly help plz.....

my configuration

dual core
intel 945 gcnl
n videa 8600 gt
4 gb ddr2

According th Intel, that Mobo supports up to 2GB of RAM.
Memory
Two 240-pin DDR2 SDRAM Dual Inline Memory Module (DIMM) sockets
Support for DDR2 667 or DDR2 533 MHz DIMMs
Support for up to 2 GB of system memory

XP 64Bit can cause more problems than it can solve.
