i have a Windows XP and lately its been making a ticking noise and the computer wont turn on , eventually the noise goes away and the computer turns on and works fine , though at times when i shut it down it sometimes freezes when it says , " windows is shutting down" , im wondering what could be causing the noise

usually the ticking is the sound of a harddrive going bad....back up all your data files on an external drive and install a brand new harddrive and reload windows xp and all your drivers and programs....

what are you running
video card cpu m/board ram power supply brand wattage check the listings in the bios for voltages and temperatures and post them
