[SOLVED] DDR 400Mhz compatability with 333/266

Hey all,

Trying to upgrade an older system a wee bit....

Its a Hallmark Viewmaster (au) fitted with a Gigabyte GA 8SIMLH motherboard, Intel Pentium4 CPU. 1x 512Mb RAM, Win XP home sp2 2002.

The specs for this board say
"Enhance system performance with DDR 333 memory"
and will work with DDR333/266/200.

Upon trying to purchase a 1x 1Gb stick I am told only DDR400 available.
Asking around, some say the system will slow it down to match.... others say some boards won't support DDR400

Can anyone clarify please?
I don't want to purchase and find it don't work. (no refund on opened goods)

NT.

I would not purchase the 400mhz ram just in case it doesn't work. You never know some motherboards will downclock the ram other just won't work.
