Please help, cant install more that one stick of ram

Hi, im wondering if you can offer me a little bit of advice as i have tried everything i know. Any advice is really appreciated.

I have just built a PC with these specs.

M2N-E Sli mobo (max 8GB of ram with 4 DIMM slots)
64bit AMD Athlon Black Edition Dual Core CPU (3 GHz overclocked)
sata hard drive
xfx 8800 GTS GDDR3 GPU
2 x 2GB OCZ platinum DDR2 Ram modules.
ATX-S600 power supply 500W
arctic freezer cpu heatsink and fan.

The problem i am having is sort of a known issue as far as some are concerned. I cannot install both of my RAM modules at once. They both certainly work as i have tried both in every combination of the slots.

I have tried lowering the voltage in the bios and the changing clock speed of the ram, infact the only thing i havent tried is flashing the bios which i kinda want to keep away from at this time.

I know the mobo can support 4GB (well 8GB) and i know that 4GB has been installed in it before as its second hand. The only difference was that the other 4gb that were installed were all 1 GB sticks...

When i try to boot with both the ram modules, there is no signal to the monitor and the mobo gives out this loud siren like noise. When i put one of my 2GB sticks in, no problem, boots fine, runs fine.Doesnt matter which stick i put in.

Does anyone have any ideas for this annoying problem? Think i should just get 4 x 1GB sticks?

Here is a suspicious tip i got from sandra software.

Tip T100 - Large memory systems (1GB or greater) should use Registered/Buffered memory, especially if more than 2 are installed on the same channel. This improves signal quality by reducing the load on the chipset channel. While these modules add an extra clock delay due to the on-board buffers (thus CL2 effectively becomes CL3), the stability will be worth it. Server chipsets with many memory slots generally require Registered memory.

Fix: If you plan on adding more memory, consider replacing the modules with Registered/Buffered modules. Do note that you cannot mix Unbuffered and Registered/Buffered modules on the same channel, but you may be able to if the chipset has multiple memory channels.

Are you thinking what im thinking? I need Buffered memory right?

However, do be careful - some motherboards cannot supply the 2.2V needed - check in your BIOS. T

I looked in my bio, the memory voltage does not go up to 2.2v, only to 1.9v

supports unbuffered only.

should be bios Version 1201 or higher.

you only have one pair so as per the manual's instructions thats slots 1 and 3 only (dual channel 1 configuration A1 + B1).

tip: no overclocking till stable startups, verify clock speed/multiplier at nominal for that cpu and ram.

1. clear RTC RAM (cmos) as described in section 2.6 in manual.
2. using only one stick (use first slot), boot into bios and set ram to maximum voltage, save and exit (F10 key) then immediately POWER OFF.
3. install second ram stick in slot 3.

with any luck that should get it going.

Thanks for the advce. I have done this mulitple time with no results though. I have cleard the cmos for minute at a time before and changed the voltage to the max but still nothing. Can someone varify that this ram will work being 1.9v

get a can of Electronic Contact Cleaner spay and clean the slots properly.

Can you post some numbers for the OCZ RAM? (i.e. OCZ Platinum 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 PC2 8500)
Also, Brand and Model of the PSU you are using.

Did you try raising the Voltage on the RAM? OCZ RAM can be a bit picky about Mobo's and voltage. Is that RAM on the approved list?
Never heard of the PSU brand and no specs are listed for it anywhere that I can find so I would certainly suggest trying a different one.

I didnt know you could change the voltage on the ram. I thought you could only change the mobo voltage. If i could change the ram voltage then that would be problem solved, id just lower the voltage to 1.95v, simple as that.

How can i lower the voltage of the ram?
