Re: Error when installing Sp2
Hi jive_john !
Dell 4550 Likely some hardware issue : General causes of "STOP 0x0000007F" errors You should never upgrade the video card without upgrading the power supply, the 250W PSU isn't suited for a better video card than the one that originally came with the computer. Voltage fluctuations can damage the ram and cause errors like the one you get. What was the model of the old video card and what's the exact brand and model of the new one ? Did you uninstall the old video drivers and reinstall the new ones for the new video card ? Enter the BIOS at startup (look for some "press xx to enter setup" message, probably F1, F2 or Del), locate the hardware monitor screen if there's one and report your temps, fan speeds and voltages (+3.3, +5 and +12V). Test your ram : download, unzip and burn memtest86+'s pre-compiled bootable .iso (.zip) using ImgBurn (select "write image file to disc" and browse for the memtest .iso file). Leave the CD in the drive, restart the computer, enter the BIOS at startup and set the boot order priority to CD-rom first. Leave memtest run overnight and report if it shows any errors. I'll move your thread to the ram and power supply support section, once you give them the exact brand and model of your video card (it'll be written on the card itself if you don't remember or haven't got the box anymore) the hardware techs will be able tell you what PSU you need.
