Lost in PSU Land
Hello, all.
I have read the sticky on power supply choosing, but am still quite lost. I know how to pick and match most things in a PC, but the PSU is a strange thing to me. LOL Here is the system I am building: Mobo: ASUS M4A79T Deluxe AM3 DDR3 AMD 790FX ATX CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Deneb 3.2GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Quad- RAM: G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC310600) Dual Channel Kit Graphics Card: GIGABYTE GV-N95TOC-1GI GeForce 9500 GT 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI HDD: Western Digital Caviar SE EIDE 7,200RPM 160GB 8MB Cache/100 MB/s CD-ROM: H L Data Storage (Hitachi) RD-R/RW GCE-8400B 5V/12V 4 pin Molex connector DVD-ROM: RU (Not sure who this manufacturer is) Model XJ-HD166S 5V/12V 4 pin Molex connector IDE I have not chosen a case or PSU until I know for sure what PSU I need. I am also on sort of a budget and can't spend more than 100 bucks on the PSU unless absolutely necessary. Thanks for any help. |

Re: Lost in PSU Land
I'd suggest Corsair's TX650, it's a hundred bucks US, before a 20 dollar rebate. Very quiet and has 52 amps on a single 12 volt rail. It'll comfortably power any video card up to a 9800GTX+ or GTS250, which are basically the same thing. The 550 watt Corsair would be fine for the 9500GT, but it's only 5 dollars less than the 650. More power is always better, components only draw what's needed, so it's nicer to run at a lower percentage of capacity for less heat and noise. Having more headroom for upgrades is an added bonus too.

Re: Lost in PSU Land
For the $5 more, go with the 650 Corsair as suggested. With only that much difference in price, you are buying more power that will permit some future upgrade in the video card area.
