Re: New system, Good enough psu choice?

That PSU would be OK but this one is cheaper and a very high quality unit:

Re: New system, Good enough psu choice?

The Corsair listed is about three times better than the Zalman. That is what I would put in that rig if it were mine.

Re: New system, Good enough psu choice?

What is so much better about it? The only difference i saw was that it wasnt modular and all the amps were on a single rail and the zalman had four rails? Is it better just to have a single 12v rail?

Re: New system, Good enough psu choice?

Yes, IMHO, it is better to have the single rail because the raw power is greater without the spread over rails.

In addition, it has a 140mm fan (Zalman has 120mm) in it which is quieter and it blows more air to cool your rig with the larger fan. The Corsair is one of the quietest (along with Seasonic) PSU's on the market.

In addion, Zalman PSU's normally don't use as high quality capacitors as Corsair does. That is an important consideration especially as the PSU gets some age on it.

This of course is your choice, but if it were my choice to make, I would purchase the Corsair. I honestly can't say that the Zalman won't work for you, it most likely would with the specs it has listed, but wanted to direct you to the best supply for the dollars you spend on it and that would IMHO, be Corsair.

Re: New system, Good enough psu choice?

Ok, thank you. I think i will go with the corsair. i didn't realize zalman used cheap parts in their products... i have only had expericence with their heatsinks and they work pretty well.... what do you think of the heatpipe cooling in the zalman? do you think it actually works well?

Re: New system, Good enough psu choice?

Zalman power supplies are above average for sure; but I wouldnt trade an equal sized Corsair for one.

Zalman cooling products are top dogs

Re: New system, Good enough psu choice?

1066 memory only runs at speeds higher than 800mhz if you are overclocking

the cpu FSB speed is linked to the memory speed

so; if your cpu is working on a 400mhz cpu frequency the ram is running at 400 x 2 = 800mhz

if you increase your cpu host freq for example to 450 your memory will be running at 450 x 2 = 900 mhz

many fellas like under clocking which means they would set the cpu freq to 500 mhz which would put the memory at 1000 mhz >>>>>> then your ram is running at full speed

so in summary .......... 1066 memory doenst really kick in until you get into the upper levels of overclocking

we normally suggest 1066 memory because its more stable than 800mhz ram when overclocking at any level ............ not because we are actually trying to hit 1066mhz
