Dedicated Power Supply

Hey I just upgraded my rig with a Nvidia 280 graphics card and of course not enough to power it and the system so I'm thinking it seems like it would be cheaper and easier just to get a dedicated graphics power supply cause i already have a good Thermatake powersupply just not enough on the 12v rails, so i guess I'm asking are dedicated power supply's frowned upon for some reason or is there a definite reason i should upgrade the power supply entirely cause i can get a good dedicated one off a friend for 50$ that's new but to go all out and get a power supply to run it all efficiently would go for about triple so is there any reason not to go with the dedicated supply?
Thanks in advanced.

Re: Dedicated Power Supply

I've never seen a nice quality dedicated graphics card power supply so no I wouldn't get one

you should be running this PSU

Corsair 850w
$150
after rebate $140
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139009

this PSU will give you plenty of room to overclock this graphics card

Re: Dedicated Power Supply

Quite honestly, I would not recommend this patch work solution of a dedicated power supply for your video card. Sell yours on ebay to offset the additional outlay and you will be much happier. That is what I would do.

Re: Dedicated Power Supply

Do you have any cheaper solutions, like one below 100$, if there is no possible solution under 100$ that is OK as well but I just need a quick fix for about 6 months.

Re: Dedicated Power Supply

You will not get a decent power supply that will run a Nvidia 280 graphics card for under $100. Simple :)

Re: Dedicated Power Supply

Here is a factory refurb from MWave (a great company), it is an 850 Thermaltake Toughpower for just $114, and this is a great price. Several of our techs use this company.
