Hot Smell from PSU
I am having a "hot" smell coming from my PSU and is almost too hot to touch.
I have a: GATEWAY LEXINGTON 3 P4 I850 MOTHERBOARD, 2517202 4000810 INTEL 2. The PSU is a Newton Power Model:NPS-250HB A. Its specs are: This ATX12V power supply is a 300W, six output unit with remote on/off, built-in EMI filter, and UL, CSA, TUV, NEMKO, CB and CE approvals. Excellent for system cooling, compliments of a 120mm fan providing a CFM of 60 at 39dB; airflow drawn into fan and out rear vents into ambient surroundings. Designed for Pentium 4 motherboards, also downward compatible with standard ATX motherboards. Any thoughts as to how to correct the problem What's the quality of the current PSU? Recommendations for a new on would be great. Thanks |

Re: Hot Smell from PSU
The only problem you might run in to with a standard ATX power supply is that your measurements in the case. (they use some cases that do not have the right sized area for a standard atx power supply) Therefore, before you go too far, compare the physical size of the included power supply with the measurements of a standard ATX supply.
Further, I would not run this rig until you get that baby fixed, so you don't burn out some other components. What video card do you have in that rig, because that would be helpful information to assist you in purchasing another power supply?
