I have 2X256 GB RAM in slots 1 and 2.
My computer is an HP Pavilion a1210n, running XP, 200 GB hard drive, AMD Athlon.

I've bought 1X1 GB RAM. KVR400X64C3a/1g. That's a DDR RAM, 184 pin DIMM, 400 MHz Bus clock, PC 3200 RAM stick.

Which slot is it best to place it in? Should I place the 1 GB in slot 1 and move one of the 256GB to slot 3 OR should I simply insert the 1 GB RAM into slot 3? The reason I ask is that slot 1 and 2 is one color (e.g. black) and slot 3 and 4 is another.( e.g. blue)

Does it matter to the speed of the PC?

for dual channel this is how it works
if you only have 2 sticks of ram
matching sticks go in these 2 either of these 2 slots

1 and 3
-or-
2 and 4

so the 2 x 256mb sticks of ram should go in either 1 and 3 or 2 and 4 with the 1 gb stick of ram in any other slot you want to put it in
