Re: Which Power Supply
At least 750 watt, I would go with 850
A solid brand like Corsair, Thermaltake (toughpower only), Pc Power and Cooling, Silver Stone Those are all good brands. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139009 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817703013 Get the 1st one, its inexpensive and known as one of the best. |

Re: Which Power Supply
I agree with connor-53...I addition this might be helpful.
What one needs to know about...the relation of the negative effects of heat on the computer...That can be caused by the power supply. Manufacturers test their PSU's at a set temperature...from this their rating is determined... for most this No. is 25 degrees Celsius...which falls short of the temperature that most computers are capable of achieving. Given that a PSU will actually lose 2-5 watts per one degree of heat above the 25 Degree Celsius testing temperature...coupled with the fact that computers tend to run at 10 degrees higher than room temperature... In the summer time when the room temperature can easily reach 80 degrees F... your computer will be running at 33 Degrees C. or 90 Degrees F. So the...math can make...your 500 watt power supply into a 460 watt unit. In addition to this...what needs to be taken into account is that each degree that your computer components are operating at...under powered...adds more heat to the equation. Consider also...the possibility...that ratings given by the manufacturer of single components...such as graphics cards...need to be treated with skepticism... Manufacturers may minimize support issues and under rate the power required...in order to make a larger profit. The above has not taken into account...the issue of high quality vs poor quality units...Power supplies convert voltages from wall outlets to lower levels used by the PC. During this conversion, some power is lost as heat. The efficiency level of the PSU determines how much extra power must be put into the power supply to run the PC. A high quality PSU can help reduce the noise and heat generated within a computer system. The higher the efficiency rating the less heat the PSU has to deal with. Therefore heat is the computers enemy...The hotter the temperature your PSU is forced to run at...the poorer the supply of power the rest of the components will receive...which has been known to lead to such things as crashes, freezing, rebooting, BSOD’s, and video distortion, as well as partial and complete failure of other components. The fact is very few PSU’s are capable of producing the wattage that the companies advertise. For a very good comprehension of recommended brand names, wattage, and models in listed categories...Plus much more...check out this link. Power Supply Information and Selection |

Re: Which Power Supply
Corsairs are 80% + efficent, so losing power should not be a concern for you. If you get a good brand (i.e. corsair) they are made for custom computer and can take temperatures above 25c. I would not be concerned with the heat. Seeing how you have 3 120mm fans. I am guessing there are 2 fans in and 1 out?

Re: Which Power Supply
you could go with a Corsair 750w its fine for that build too
also Connor-53 good PSU's are rated to 50C and the crappy PSU's are rated to 25C for their efficiencies The corsair 850w would be able to deal with a GTX 285 too |

Re: Which Power Supply [moved from Gaming forum]
Is that tri-sli'd gtx260's? You want more than 750watts, if that's the case, and more than 850 too.
1000HX http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139007 Might even want to go higher, but the Corsair is a great supply and should do the job, with tri-sli you don't use triple the power of one card.

Re: Which Power Supply [moved from Gaming forum]
Wow! I'm a little undecided. Suggestions have gone from 850 Watt to 1250 Watt.
GPU set up would be, one card to start off then, as time goes by, I would add 2nd and 3rd one in SLI mode. This will probably take over a year and a half to do, depending of the game's available then. What about buying the required PSU for one GTX 260 and when I go SLI, buy the right PSU at its future lower price? How watts at this priamary stage? I thank everyone for your valuable suggestions. Please keep it coming. |

Re: Which Power Supply
Either of these mentioned power supplies will do fine for you:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139009 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817703013 My advice is to get one great card and forget the sli/or/crossfire setups. It will be very competitive and will cost a whole lot less and is easier to set up to give you optimum top-of-the-line performance.

Re: Which Power Supply [moved from Gaming forum]
My Budget is around $1400.00. Plus the price of a gaming keyboard, if you think it's worth it.
Already have monitor and speakers. I'm considering buying from Tigerdirect.com because I am Miami, Florida and they have stores here. That way if I get stuck perhaps they would help me. |

Re: Which Power Supply [moved from Gaming forum]
ahh yes this is the proper link I was trying to make sure you were in budget
I was going to go with a Core i7 computer first but then you'd be over budget by quite a bit so I revised quite a few times Proper Link AMD Phenom II X4 940 Deneb 3.0GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM2+ 125W Quad-Core Black Edition Processor - Retail $215 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103471 with 2 HDD you'll just hook them both up with sata connections and install windows on one of them. The other can be used for backing up, videos whatever you want. its good to have an extra HDD in case you need to back up your files or something |
