Any Ideas of why my computer reboots a few minutes after a game loads up?
Hi, I am kinda of new here and thought I would ask. I have been trying to get my wife's desktop into working condition. I seem to have fixed the BSOD problem my running Windows update; however, whenever I load up a installed game (i.e. pop cap bejeweled twist & Age of Mythology). The game loads up to the main menu or the start of the game then immediately makes a weird buzz noise of a second then reboots.
I have been internet, ran ad aware, and played the games that come with windows Vista (i.e. free cell & ink ball) for a few hours no problem. I checked the BIOS and the temperature is set around 50 C and fan runs around 3200 rpm (I think). Does anybody have any ideas of what the problem could be? I just want to narrow down my possible problems. I have a Emachine (please don't judge) T5226 Specs Windows Vista home premium Intel® Pentium® D Processor 925 (Dual-Core)1 64-bit processor with Intel® EM64T Technology (Each core operates at 3.0GHz | 2 x 2MB L2 Cache | 800MHz FSB) 2GB DDR2 Memory, Dual-Channel Capable (2 X 1024 MB) 250GB SATA II (7200rpm, 8MB Cache) DVD±RW Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950 Up to 224MB Shared Video Memory PCI-Express (PCI-E x16) |

50c in the Bios without load is a little warm, Try using SensorsView to read the temp while in windows and loading the CPU> http://www.stvsoft.com/
If you could isolate the noise to an area of the PC like the power supply or motherboard it would be helpful, as eMachines are known for weak PSU's. |

Why do have a 64-bit Processor and only 2 GB of ram?.... weird.
Check to make sure there are no hardware conflicts, press 'Windows Logo' +Pause/Break, go to the Hardware tab and click Device Manager, then click on all of the plus signs until you find a yellow exclamation point. Try to also play the games into safe mode, to enter safe mode, continually press F8 (sometimes F10) during boot until you get a screen asking you what to do, select Safe Mode

Re: Any Ideas of why my computer reboots a few minutes after a game loads up?
I will try the Heat Sensor tonight, I think it might be the power supply. Also, the computer was already stocked with 1 GB of memory (dual 512 MB sticks). The computer has had other problems and thought an upgrade of memory to 2 GB would help.
Last night I did a memory test and the computer reported no problems. Then I tried some of the games like bejeweled twist which took a little longer but it still rebooted. Then booted windows in safe mode and bejeweled opened up in that without rebooting. I will try the other one and let you know. Last edited by Arcadia; 04-15-2009 at 09:53 AM. |

Re: Any Ideas of why my computer reboots a few minutes after a game loads up?
Okay, I ran the testes you guys recommened.
The sound is coming from the speakers, the make a sharp buzzing noise for one second as the system restarts itself. I check to see if their was a conflict in the systems setup. I did not see any. Next, I downloaded the temperature sensor and started one of the games. The CPU usage got up to 67% and Memory near 35%. I checked the charts and the voltage & temperature had a huge spike. The fan got up to 50 RPM. If I am correct. It seems like a Power supply or fan issue. If I am correct, what can I do to repair this? Suggestions? |

I don't know the exact reading, but my guess from the sensor programs charts was that the voltage spiked up to 70 and temp near or over 60 degrees C.

Re: Any Ideas of why my computer reboots a few minutes after a game loads up?
The voltage readings your looking for are for the 12v, 5v, and 3.3v readings, I have no idea what 35 is.
The fan on the CPU should be in the 1500 to 3500 RPM range. |
