New ram has played havoc with my laptop

I have just put 4 gig of ddr2 6400 ram into my ASUS Laptop, Upon restarting it took a little while to login and then i opened a folder and it was like i had no video drivers installed, So i went to the site and downloaded the driver for the graphics. The error i get is.

The Nvidia setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatable with your current hardware, setup will now exit.

At that point i click ok and exit the setup, i have also tried the GeForce 8400M G 128MB (Laptop) driver from the asus website.

In the device manager there is one item with an Asterix.
Mobile Intel(R) PM965/GM965/GL960 Express PCI Express root port - A201

When i go into the properties this is the device status.
This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)

If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system.

I am sort of confused as to why new ram would do this.

The system is loading up, I am writing this post on it as i type.

XP SP3 32bit

Re: New ram has played havoc with my laptop

if the computer is booting it is unlikely to be a ram problem

what happens in safe mode

Re: New ram has played havoc with my laptop

Re: New ram has played havoc with my laptop

safe mode will indicate it is most likely a software problem when you cannot get into safe mode you look for a h/ware problem

yours will be an onboard listing

uninstall the problem device and reboot the laptop

My System

Re: New ram has played havoc with my laptop

Is the new RAM compatible with the laptop? Do you experience the same problem with the RAM that was previously installed?

Re: New ram has played havoc with my laptop

I just re installed the chipset and i still get the same error message when installing the graphics card, and the device manager still has an ! at the same spot as above.

I just checked in Desktop properties > Settings > Advanced > Adapter > Property > Resources .

Under conflicting resources
Input/Output Range 03B0 - 03BB used by:
Mobile Intel(R) PM965/GM965/GL960 Express PCI Express Root Port - 2A01
Input/Output Range 03C0 - 03DF used by:
Mobile Intel(R) PM965/GM965/GL960 Express PCI Express Root Port - 2A01
Memory Range 000A0000 - 000BFFFF used by:
Mobile Intel(R) PM965/GM965/GL960 Express PCI Express Root Port - 2A01

Which is the device i have an asterix against.

Also under resource settings there are five items but 3 of them have stop symbols over the top of them

Under adapter properties all adapter info Is <Unavailable>

SOLVED ram has played havoc with my laptop

There was an update to the bios that fixed the missing VGA when there was more than 3 gig of ram, so a bios update fixed the issue.

Thanks for all help.
