RAM Not Reading
I recently bought some more RAM for my HP Pavilion a1710n. I already had 1 gig on my pc but my pc was moving slow so I bought 3 more gb. My pc hold about 3.5 - 4 gb of ram so I thought I would be good. Unfortunately, once I installed it, the computer is only reading RAM from the first memory bank. I did upgrade the bios before I installed the new RAM. Does anyone have a solution as to how I can fix this problem?

Re: RAM Not Reading
Try removing the RAM stick from the first bank and put the new RAM there (leave the other bank empty). Does it recognize the new RAM if it's installed in the first bank?

Re: RAM Not Reading
Ok so new RAM is recognized on the first socket. Put the old RAM on the second socket but remove the new RAM from the first socket. Is the old RAM recognized while on the second socket?

Re: RAM Not Reading
No for some reason, only the first slot is being recognized. I've tried rearranging the cards in various different ways but nothing seems to work. I updated the bios before I installed the new ram and that may be what is causing the problem. I even tried restoring the bios to the default settings but that didn't work either.

Re: RAM Not Reading
I think you nailed it. I have heard of similar problems. I suggest although this may sound far off, try to visually check the socket first. may be something got lodged in there that prevents pin contact.
