Hi all
i have recently upgraded the ram from 2gb to 4gb in my hp a6220.uk
The new ram moduals are compatible and does work

But the ram does not register with any applications on my PC like games

I have upgraded with corsair 240-pin ddr2 DIMM

Re: Upgrade in ram

Could it be that the PC isn't compatible with 4GB of RAM? It might be that the PC is only capable of holding 2GB of RAM.

How many sticks of RAM do you have? 2? 2GB each?

Re: Upgrade in ram

I take it the corsair ones are the new ones, right?

Take the both corsair's out, does it go back to normal?

Then, put the corsair's back in and take out the old ones, does it still show normally?

Re: Upgrade in ram

Honestly, I am at a loss.

This may have something to do with it:
Code:
Maximum allowed 4 GB* (4 x 1 GB)

*Actual available memory may be less
It doesn't make sense, but it could be that your PC only allows you to have 2 GB available at a time. Maybe your PC is using the 4 GB when needed, but only normally runs with 2 GB.

Edit --- I just read that 32 bit OS can't use all 4 GB.

I also found a link that provides a little more information about your problem.

Confused Re: Upgrade in ram

You are lost im out of theis world.
I have been looking into it, and a 3.2 bit system can handle 3.3gb of ram.
My brother also upgraded to 4 gig in his hp laptop which has pretty much the same spec, and that works fine
i looked at that link you gave i found this in system summary
it says 4gb installed but 2gb total???
any ideas??
Thanks for looking into it!!

Re: Upgrade in ram

The only thing I can think of is that your PC really only can use 2 GB at a time. I realize it doesn't make sense.

When you take one stick of RAM out, I'm guessing it shows 3 GB of total memory and only 2 GB available?
