RAM Limit

I have an Intel DP43TF motherboard that has a maximum capacity of 8GB of RAM. If I stay under for GB of RAM i won't have any problems will i, or do other factors also add limitations on the amount of RAM you can have? I was choosing parts to put into a laptop on the hp website and when i clicked on 4GB of RAM (free upgrade) it returned an error stating that with 4GB of ram i had to use Vista 64bit. Right now on my PC i have 4GB but have been having issues playing some of my games and one of the suggestions was to remove one of the 2GB sticks of RAM so i'm curious.

-Thanks

My System

Re: RAM Limit

Do you have the x32 bit Ultimate? If you are planning to use more than 4gb, then you do have to use a x64 bit OS. I heard that the x64 bit Ultimate was better with for playing games than the x32 bit Ultimate. I really don't know since I run the x64 bit Windows XP Pro. on my machine, and beta testing the Windows 7 x64 now.

Re: RAM Limit

32 Bit operating systems have a limit of 4Gig of addressable space this includes Video Cards and system devices, most of the time the OS will show around 3.2Gig available but can vary from 2.7 to 3.4 depending on the system.
Having 4gig should not cause you problems unless the sticks need more voltage, what is the voltage rating of your sticks and what voltage are you running them at?

Re: RAM Limit

Do you know the Brand and Part number? The manufacturers web site will give you the voltages.
Or try CPUz and post screen shots of the Memory and SPD tab> http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php
