RAM upgrade: compatible with my comp?
I'm looking to upgrade the RAM in my computer from 1gb to 2gb (because 2gb is the max), and I have a giftcard at NCIX so I want to buy from there. I'm more of a software guy not hardware, so I just wanted to make sure I'm getting compatible RAM...
My computer My motherboard Components list upgrades: an XFX Ge-Force 8800 GT and 700 watt power supply. Ram I'm looking at: OCZ Platinum XTC Corsair XMS2 Kingston ValueRAM x2 Crucial x2 Also, given my system, would I notice a difference going with valueRAM vs the Corsair or OCZ? Any help or input is appreciated! :) |

Re: RAM upgrade: compatible with my comp?
as I have seen your computer configuration there is no problem in upgrading your ram to 2GB.According to me you should go for Kingston mfgd ram as it is reliable and also cheaper than corsair.Corsair is rarely found in Indian market whereas we can easily get kingston in the market

Re: RAM upgrade: compatible with my comp?
Here's what Crucial says will work in your computer.
http://www.crucial.com/store/listpar...Media%20Center And here's what Kingston says. http://www.ec.kingston.com/ecom/conf...submit1=Search Unfortunately, Corsair did not list your model. You can try to put in your model at OCZ, I can't do it from here. Doesn't work on these work dinosaurs eh. http://conf.ocztechnology.com/index.php?c Then what you have to do is note the part numbers of the ram that you are interested in, and then check at ncix for those same part numbers. If you select ram that is guaranteed compatible by the manufacturer, it'll work. More of a crapshoot otherwise, I'd rather buy ram that I know will be good.

Re: RAM upgrade: compatible with my comp?
Thanks, ended up going with the Kingston ValueRAM PC2-4200
http://ncix.com/products/index.php?m...533D2N4K2%2F2G Pretty sure it'll work fine. |

Re: RAM upgrade: compatible with my comp?
The value ram is pretty generic, so the odds are very good that it'll work. Not a big fan of it myself, but I also use ram a little differently.
I got a gift card from my brother at christmas. Just wish it was from ncix, I do spend a lot there and at newegg.ca. Unfortunately, he went the easy route and got one from Futureshop. They suck for hardware. Oh well eh, sorta worked out, have yet another spare mx-518 and a wireless desktop for whenever.
