My Power Supply, shorting out?
Note the question mark in the title.
I jsut built my new system, here's the specs: Motherboard XFX 780i SLI CPU Intel Core2 Duo E8500 (3.16GHz factory clock) Memory OCZ PC2-8500 SLI-Ready 1066MHz CL5, 4*1GB PSU Gigabyte ODIN GT 800W GPU Galaxy GeForce 9800GTX+ Case NZXT Whisper CD Drive Sony IDE one (not sure on details) HDD Samsung 1TB 7500rpm (new, unused) Alright i think that's it. The Problem As i said, i'm certain it's the power supply. I'd boot up the computer, and i had got to format the Hard Drive with WinXP Home Edition. I reboot her to continue the installation of the OS, and it temporarily just turns off. No beeps or anything, just turns off. And it's not at the same point, it does it at random, sometimes i could get a few minutes into the installation and it'd turn off, sometimes i wouldn't get past the XP loading screen. What i've done is taken the video card out (which uses 2xPCI-E 6pins) and now it seems to be going fine, it'd be installing now. I'm sure that 800W is plenty to run the 9800GTX+. But, i could use some community input. So, anyone, give a brother a helping hand? Thanks - Ryan. PS-i checked back on it and it's still running, probably half way through installation of XP. Should it reboot after it's finished? (i'm going to put the card back in when it's installed and ready to go) |

Re: My Power Supply, shorting out?
Ok, i checked the voltages.. And while i was doing that, i noticed someting.
Strike out the power thing, it's DEFINITYL the CPU. Why the hell is it at 103 degrees?!?!?!?!? (Celsius) What should i do? I'm using the intel cooler that came with the CPU, and it's such a stupid contraption. I cleaned up the thermal paste and stuff, should i put more back on or not? And how the hell do i get this ******* cooler on?? |

Re: My Power Supply, shorting out?
If you cleaned all the paste off then yes you need to put thermal paste back on, the heat sink has 4 legs start with one side and lock the push pin then the opposite side then the other two, I usually do it before putting the motherboard in the case that way I can see the bottom of the motherboard to make sure they are locked.

Re: My Power Supply, shorting out?
That's what myself is thinking.
But it's definitely the right amount of thermal paste. And the cooler is on as good as it can be. Could it be a manufacturing error? |
