Should I get a new PSU?
I have had some problems with my computer for the past week or two after getting a new nVidia GeForce 9800GT Overclocked and installed it.
My computer is working just fine, surprisingly...because I'm running it with a 250W PSU that is stock with my Acer T180, I've had this computer for about a year and a half and it's been completely good, I'm looking for suggestions as to what PSU I should get. I've been looking towards the Corsair 750TX on newegg for a few days and am dead set on getting it, any other suggestions. Specifics: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Processor 3600+ ~2.0GHz 4.5gb of RAM, 3.5~4GB recognized on 32bit Vista(SP1) nVidia GeForce 9800GT OC and I'm running dual monitors off the video card, Acer's X191W(19") and AL2216W(22"). |

Re: Should I get a new PSU?
The TX750 is a great PSu but noisy. I have one. I would go the 650W psu which is cheaper and plenty sufficient for your system. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139005

Re: Should I get a new PSU?
It's noisy? I can't telll, loudest fan for me is on the 9800GT. Guess the TX750 is a bit louder, it doesn't make the list at SPCR (Silent PC Review) while the TX650 does. Different maker of internals for Corsair might explain it, the 650 is made by Seasonic and the 750 by CWT. (ChannelWell Technologies)

http://www.corsair.com/_images/charts/tx750w_noise.jpg vs http://www.corsair.com/_images/charts/tx650w_noise.jpg
the 750 has a 20mm bigger fan which is quieter at lower loads but louder at higher...

Re: Should I get a new PSU?
Thanks a bunch guys ^_^. I plan on getting one or the other by next weekend, despite the sound the 750TX makes, I heard it's one of the best. Considering I don't mind the sound, but know that heavy loads = louder sounds and if its a really heavy load it can put some strain on the PSU, correct?
I'm still considering both options, but you guys rock! :D EDIT: Forgot to ask this. My local computer store, Patton computers, caries a variety of things, anything you could put in your computer for off the manufacturer price, no markups or downs. My buddy works there and tells me that there is an Antec 1000W that they are selling for around $100, I don't quite believe him.. let alone need 1000W PSU, granted most things I've heard about Antec are good, but what do you guys think? Antec 1000W or Corsair 650TX/750TX? I like corsair better >_> Last edited by Synthx; 01-25-2009 at 02:36 PM. |

Re: Should I get a new PSU?
Corsair 750 by a long shot. The Antec as mentioned has seen a decline in their quality. That might be why you see a 1000 watt for that price.

Re: Should I get a new PSU?
Thanks a bunch. and @Net, I wouldn't have cared for a loud or silent PSU, i just need something better than a 250W XD
Thanks a bunch to all the input :D made my decision clearer! |
