[SOLVED] Vista freezing and restarting

Hi

I have been having a recurring problem for a couple of months now where my computer started either freezing up, restarting or the screen going distorted. This only happen after being left off for long periods of time (ie. overnight or while im out at work). Im forced to restart the computer after which it works fine. The problem seems to get progressively worse and now requires multiple restarts. After restarts a few things happen such as sometimes there is no power to my USB mouse or keyboard, or the monitor remains blank.

About a month ago i purchased a new motherboard as I belived this could be the problem and after installing it along with a fresh installation of Windows Vista Home Premium it seemed to work fine until about a week ago when the problem returned. Again it seems to be getting worse.

I've downloaded all windows updates, drivers, ran virus/adware scans, ran checkdisk, mem test all of which seem ok and even tried a repair installation of Vista. The strange thing about it is when the pc starts up and lasts more than a couple of mins it runs fine for hours!

Im thinking it maybe a faulty PSU as it is a cheap 'Colorsit' 600W. I have looked at the voltages using HWmon and noticed that the -5V is reading about -0.38V. Im not sure if this is normal or could be causing a problem?

Info about my system:
AMD Dual Core 4400+
Mobo - Gigabyte GA-MA69G-S3H
2x1GB Corsair XMS2 RAM
GFX-Sapphire HD3850 1GB
HDDs - Hitachi 150GB (with OS installed on)
- Maxtor 80GB
- External USB Seagate

Any help appreciated!

Re: Vista freezing and restarting

You do need a new psu reagardless mate. The colorsit brand is very very poor quality. The 38 series ATI cards are reasonably power hungry, so you need a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139005
