Idea PC won't boot after RAM upgrade

Motherboard – Intel D865GLC, 4GB max ram (1GB installed in four sockets). Attempted an upgrade to 2x1GB (new) + 2x256MB (two of the existing sticks). I found the type of ram I needed after scanning the PC and the new ram is the same type as the existing one - DDR400. The PC won’t boot at all, screen black, hard drive does not move at all. Removed all ram, new sticks together or alone in any slot or configuration would not start the PC either. Back to original configuration was OK.
The new sticks are double-sided and have 8 memory chips on each side. The only thing I found on Intel’s website was that the board “would not support double-sided DIMMs with x16 organisation”. Don’t know if that is a problem here, as the new sticks do have 16 chips in total.
Any ideas?

Re: PC won't boot after RAM upgrade

This could be any number of things.
1. As you stated you should try a 8 chip 1GB PC3200, maybe your motherboard would not accept a 16chip.

2. There are different types of 1GB pc3200 with different configurations, some are CL2, CL3 or just the brand of the chip, is important as well. Original memory is much better than OEM or major on 3rd. since you have so much problems with this machine, make sure you buy original memory. Like Samsung memory, micron memory or Kingston memory. See what brand is your original memory, and try to buy the same brand.

You can find more info about memory for computer models of all types at http://www.houseofmemory.com.

Re: PC won't boot after RAM upgrade

The only memory you can use for your motherboard is : http://www.intel.com/support/motherb.../CS-027110.htm

Pay special attention to the Supported DIMM configurations part, as different capacitites and different double or single sided RAM modules are supported.
