PSU to accomodate ATi x1950 Pro
Hey Guy
I have just purchased a new ATi x1950 pro (AGP) for an older machine i am currently doing up on a budget. I understand that a more powerful card will require more power and im certain the current PSU, which has a maximum output of 250 won't suffice. My specs are: Chipset : SiS 661FX/GX Processor : Intel Pentium 4 519J @ 3066 MHz Physical Memory : 2048 MB (2 x 1024 DDR-SDRAM ) Video Card : NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200LE (To be replaced with x1950 Pro) Hard Disk : ST3200826A (200 GB) Hard Disk : WD External (1000 GB) DVD-Rom Drive : TSSTcorp CD/DVDW SH-S162L USB Device DVD-Rom Drive : TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S202J ATA Device Monitor Type : LG Electronics M1917TM - 19 inches Network Card : Realtek Semiconductor RT8139 (A/B/C/810x/813x/C+) Fast Ethernet Adapter Operating System : Windows XP Media centre DirectX : Version 10.00 Basically i would like to know what would be a sufficient PSU for the system, something that is not going to break the bank but will meet the additional power needs. I know the PSU is important and the cheap ones are useless but i can't afford to spend a fortune on a PSU that is going in to such an old machine. Given the x1950's reputation to overheat i will be adding some additional cooling in the form of a exhaust fan, just thought i would mention it in case this is going to be a factor. Thanks guys i hope you can help |

Re: PSU to accomodate ATi x1950 Pro
a cheap psu puts the pc at risk and you may well be throwing that psu and the video card in the garbage, so get a good psu and when you finally retire this pc you can reuse the parts in your next pc.
