Ram question on Dell computers

My husband has a question regarding a Ram upgrade of his Dell Demension 2400 series built in 2004 2.4 mghz. He wants to upgrade the memory on it. There are 2 memory slots and the owner's manual says that a maximum of 1 gig of memory and the memory capacities are 128, 256, or 512. Memory type that he wishes to install is the pc2700 333 mhz ddr sd ram. He's looked at several sites such as Crucial and New Egg and they say that he can put a 1 gig ram in each slot which is contrary to what the owner's manual says. He doesn't want to waste money buying 1 gig memory chips if they won't work. So which is true? 512 or 1 gig each slot?
Thank you for your time,

Nimue

Re: Ram question on Dell computers

If memory serves me either the A02 or A03 Bios update increased the ram capacity on those. Check on your boot screen if you have A03 or higher then the 1gig sticks will work fine.
