[SOLVED] Help Help Help!!
Uhm well I have a problem, I bought a new setup, and I got the cpu and the mobo as a bundle, so I got home and I put my new mobo in and my old ram, new graphics card so heres were my problem starts I turn the comp on and it comes on with no display, and no post.
So me and my mate trouble shooted and we replaced every part psu ram graphics the lot, and nothing. We got 1 long beep after we reset the cmos and took 1 gig of ram out. Thats all we got it didnt happen again, so I came home and rebuilt my old computer with the same ram, and nothing it wont even turn on. The only thing we didnt replace was the CASE, is this the problem like the PWR Switch + and stuff could they be broke...? Oh we also tried different hardrives... So we have trouble shooted every part of this computer and nothing.... I've gone through 2 psu's trying to fix this and they both dont work apprently. Any ideas?? Thanks Ste. Re: Help Help Help!!
The thing I run across most often is that folks fry at least one component with static. They were either working in a carpeted area or didn't make sure the case was properly grounded before poking around in there. I once lent a friend 15 sticks of used ram to try out in a machine he was working on. He would stick the ram in, nothing would happen, he would power down and replace the ram. What he would fail to do is unplug the machine and hit the power button to discharge residual power. All 15 sticks were returned to me dead as a doornail.
My guess would be a static discharge or a residual power shock. |

Re: Help Help Help!!
Well I am working in a carpeted room on the floor and I often put the damn case on my legs... To lean on it... That could be it??
Ste. If it is static is there a way to "fix" it? Last edited by dai; 12-27-2008 at 08:02 AM. |

Re: Help Help Help!!
Ugh I'm not being like rude but I've tried 3 psu's one being an £80 corsair and still no luck the psu seriously isnt the problem...
EDIT: The 80 pound one was a 650 watt. I now know the problem and admittably is my own stupid fault thats why I'm pissed! Like I asked above is there a way to remove and repair a motherboard whats been a victim of static?? I just rebuilt the pc from scratch everything out of a static free bag I did all the procedures grounded ext.. and still the same damn problem... :/ Last edited by Darkf0x; 12-27-2008 at 09:24 AM. |

Re: Help Help Help!!
Here's a link to your board on the ECS website, in case you don't have it. http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Pro...ID=123&LanID=0
First off, the Corsair was not mentioned prior to post #7, but even a good quality psu can be doa, unlikely though for 3 power supplies all to be nonfunctioning. So, a couple thoughts. As well as the 24 pin ATX power, did you also connect the 4 pin square ATX12v. molex, for cpu power? Did you build all of this inside the case? You may be in need of linderman's bench test. How to Bench Test Your System The cpu and motherboard should be compatible, as they were purchased as a bundle, but how about the ram? What is the manufacturer and model number? Is it 2 x 1GB sticks or 1 x 2GB stick? I'd assume 2 sticks for dual channel, but sometimes people have just the one. At this point you don't know if it's ESD (ElectroStatic Discharge) or not, need to try and determine that. And while you're mucking about, clear your cmos again.

Re: Help Help Help!!
Thanks for the reply.
Yeah well the psu the corsair one was my mates what he uses currently so it worked.. Yeah the 24 and 4 are both in secrurly I've made sure of that... Yeah all in my case but like I said at first I did it on a carpet floor in my room, < wasnt the smartest thing to do, then I put the mobo in a static free bag what it came in left it over night in the box and re built it and still nothing but I do get a light on my mobo from my ethernet connecter... Yeah 2 x 1GB Dual Chan and yeah 667mhz are supported... And I'll clear the cmos and leave it around 10-3o minutes. Ste. |

Re: Help Help Help!!
i work on carpets all the time i doubt static has anything to do with it
the only 1 long beep listed for ami bios is the system posted nothing about a long beep repeating check the cpu h/sink is seated properly i would suspect the m/board is faulty

Re: Help Help Help!!
I work in carpeted areas too but I'm very aware of the static dangers as I'm sure you are. Grounding yourself, discharging static and residual power and keeping movement to a minimum are things an experienced tech instinctivly do. They are things an inexperienced person can easily overlook especially in the race to get the brand new machine up and running so INMHO, I wouldn't dismiss static damage quite so quickly. True, it could be 20 or 30 other things. Swapping out components with known good ones is pretty basic trouble shooting and to me the easiest one to start with is RAM (assuming of course you have access to a known good stick of compatible ram).
