Power Supply Recommendation

I need a recommendation for a power supply, I currently have a Cooler Master iGreen Power Supply of 500W. I am planning to buy a system with 750i Sli mobo, 2gb corsaid XMS2 Memory, XFX 9800GT, C2D E6600 @ 2.4 GHZ which I already have. So will my current power supply be sufficient for this system or should I buy a new one. If so then what should be the wattage?

Re: Power Supply Recommendation

No, it will not be sufficient. To give you some head room, I would go for a 750 watt supply in this rig. Here is one that is great:

BTW, a 650 might pull this video card, but then you limit your expansion possibilities.

Re: Power Supply Recommendation

Thanks mate...another question regarding the same issue....actually I have a XFX 680i LT SLI board which I though was fried as I was unable to Flash my BIOS and it kept giving odd errors about BIOS...so I thought ok it's gone but actual prob was being caused by the new memory module I bought it was clocked @ 1066 MHZ where as my board supports only 800 MHZ DDR2 so when I placed my friend's Kingston DDR2 clocked @ 667MHZ it ran smooth...I had the same PSU though 500 Watt one and my configuration is E6600 @ 2.4GHZ, 2GB DDR2 Corsair XMS2 @ 800 MHZ, 8600GTS, 200 GB HDD and 2 optical Drives. Now since the release of the new nVIDIA driver I am planning to keep my 8600 GTS and buy a 9800 GT and use them both one for physx and one for graphics. So I will be needing a 700 Watt PSU right. And I will be installing CPU Coolers and FANs as well because it gets quite heated up here in Pakistan in summers.

Re: Power Supply Recommendation

The 8600 will run fine on a 550 watt power supply. the 9800 GTS, I would want a 700 watt or greater power supply. There are some great deals right now on certain power supplies and here is a list of great ones:

Seasonic – Any Model
Corsair – Any Model
PC Power & Cooling – Any Model
Thermaltake – “Toughpower” Series Only
Coolermaster – “Real Power Pro” Series Only

Re: Power Supply Recommendation

Thanks mate...I will go for corsair as Cooler Master Real Power here is like worth almost double and those guys the retailers only keep the high end supplies like 850 watt or 1000 watt of real power...and keep its price soaring high like the real power 1250 Watt supply is equivalent to the price of Core i7 920 here...at any ways thanks mate...

Oh yeah I was saying that I will be using both 9800 GT and 8600 GTS so 750 watt Corsair the one you told me would be more than enough? As the 8600 GTS I will be using for physx.

Re: Power Supply Recommendation

I am up with another question :P the thing is that my friend has to buy a new system and he is on a budget. So he was asking me about some supplies. Now he wants to run a XFX 9600 GT on these supplies

Cooler Master Extreme Power 600Watt
http://www.coolermaster.com/products...bcate=22&id=51

Corsair HX520Watt
http://www.corsair.com/products/hx/default.aspx

Corsair says their supply has the ability to share power on the other rail if one is asking for more. So do the Cooler Master has that thing as well? and also on many sites it is mentioned that we need xxxWatt supply to run the graphic card. Like even XFX says that 400 Watt is the minimum requirement for 9600GT. So what is the thing about heavy amps on a single rail? and when manufacturers mention that we need minimum xx amps on +12V rail so does it mean combined Amps of multiple rails or single rail?

Re: Power Supply Recommendation

The coolermaster is not one of their quality power supplies. The only Coolermaster I would recommend is the "Real Power Pro" model. Single rail is normally the best scenario. When you combine amps (and you do), there is a loss somewhat in unused amperage on different rails. Just the way the beast is made. However, if it has adequate amps, don't worry about that too much. What you need to look for is a good brand name like the specific list I posted earlier.
